$18.75/HR General Purpose This position is entry-level pre-apprenticeship work in the construction, maintenance and repair of overhead and underground electrical distribution and transmission systems. Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities Assists in digging holes for poles and guy anchors. Assists in placing poles, pulling wires and burying cable. Assists in setting transformers, setting electrical pedestals, setting various electrical switch gear and associated equipment. Assists in the installation of electrical conduit. Assists in supplying tools and materials to line workers. Stocks crew truck with necessary parts and materials. Assists in responses by line crews to trouble calls. Complies with all safety rules and regulations. Will be required to respond under emergency conditions. May be required to transport, mix, handle or use hazardous materials (cans of gasoline, batteries, pumping fuel or access to normal janitorial cleaning materials) or may be responsible for facilities or equipment carrying current, fluids or gas that could endanger the public or other employees. Performs other related duties as required/assigned. Minimum Qualifications High school graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Possession of a valid Florida Commercial Driver's License Class A within twelve (12) months of employment. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of tools and equipment used in maintenance, repair or construction work. Skill in manual tasks. Ability to learn construction, maintenance and repair of overhead and underground electrical distribution and transmission systems. Ability to work effectively with co-workers and the general public. Ability to work unscheduled and emergency overtime. Must meet safety training established for position. Working Conditions and Physical Requirements Works inside. Works outside in various weather conditions with: noise, dust, fumes, grease or oils, electrical energy. Slippery surfaces. With moving objects or vehicles. Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction). Acceptable hearing (with or without correction). Heavy (45 pounds and over) lifting and carrying. Reaching, pulling, pushing. Climbing, walking, standing, crawling, kneeling, bending, balancing, stooping. Distinguish colors. Smelling. Equipment Operation.
