Lineman/Power Plant Operator/ Natural Gas Operator

Brooklyn Municipal Utilities operates an electric transmission and distribution system, electrical generating plants and a gas distribution system. Duties and Responsibilities for Line Man

• All aspects of electric utility construction and maintenance, including power line construction both overhead and underground, tree trimming and hot line work.
• Must be a journeyman linem an, technical school graduate or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
• Requires ability to climb poles and work at heights, operate equipment including digger/derricks, aerial trucks, trencher, backhoe and associated equipment.
• Respond to and correct any problems with the municipal electric system, ensuring that all work is performed in a safe manner, with minimum inconvenience and risk to the general public Duties and Responsibilities for Power Plant Operation
• Operation of diesel generation and associated equipment. Mechanical aptitude and some computer knowledge required. Performs small repairs on equipment and may assist in major repairs.
• Ability to read and interpret gauges and charts including pressure, temperature, KW and amp gauges. Duties and Responsibilities for Gas Operator
• All aspects of gas utility construction and maintenance including installation and repairs of natural gas mains and service lines
• Must be a qualified Natural Gas Operator or be able to qualify under BMU's Natural Gas Qualification program
• Mapping and locating underground facilities
