Job Description

Lineworker Normal Work Week:
Monday
  • Friday (7:00am
  • 3:30pm)
Immediate Supervisor:
Electric Superintendent Purpose:
Under the Supervision of the Electric Superintendent, Lineworkers perform technical work constructing, maintaining and operating PPU electric distribution lines, substations and related work as apparent or assigned in a safe, reliable, and efficient manner. Provide assistance to ensure that the distribution system remains in compliance with all applicable state and federal and industrial related regulations at all times. Provide general labor assistance for other Utility Departments on an as-needed basis.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Construction of new underground services and service upgrades
  • Outage restoration and service quality checks
  • Maintenance on overhead and underground lines, transformers, switches, and other electrical equipment as needed.
  • Operate trucks and equipment
  • Read, change, install, and seal meters
  • Operate GIS system and AMI system
  • Assist in substation maintenance
  • Perform on-call duties. Work outside of regular hours during outages, emergencies, and peak construction
  • Complete outage reports, work orders, and inventory
  • Implement and follow PPU safety policies and procedures
  • Be a positive and constructive member of a small and dedicated line crew. Job Skills

  • Minnesota Class "A" CDL and meet all DOT requirements or obtain within six months of employment

Education, Experience and Training:
Any combination of education and experience with standard electric utility construction and maintenance practices:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completed a lineworker program
  • Previous experience in the construction and maintenance of electrical construction and maintenance.
  • Journey certification (preferred)
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be skilled at pole-climbing and using lineman's tools safely.
  • Work outside in the elements under all weather conditions.
  • Apply manual dexterity needed for working in and around mechanical and electrical equipment, including grasping, twisting, manipulating tools, etc.
  • Reach by extending hands or arms in any direction.
  • Sit, walk, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and/or crawl.
  • Climb and perform manual work on ladders/platforms/poles at heights of up to 60 feet.
  • Work while wearing various safety equipment required to perform job tasks; for example: Arc Flash shields, Suits, harnesses while on lift, in buckets, etc.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus, depth perception, color perception, night and peripheral vision.
  • Work and communicate in noisy environments under varied indoor and outdoor conditions.
  • Carry and/or lift tools and equipment weighing in excess of 50 pounds indoors and outdoors.
  • Push and/or pull carts, dollies, or pallet jacks containing objects up to 500 pounds.
  • Distinguish colors for wiring, lights, cables, etc. for job performance and safety purposes.
  • Travel to various public power utilities for mutual aid and/or for training opportunities required on an occasional basis.
Pay:
$47.25 per hour
