The UCG Technician is responsible for identifying, locating, and marking underground utilities prior to excavation to ensure safe and efficient project execution. This role plays a critical part in preventing damage, service interruptions, and safety hazards. Key Responsibilities Locate and mark underground utilities (gas, electric, water, sewer, telecom, fiber, etc.) using specialized equipment Read and interpret utility maps, blueprints, and work orders Operate locating equipment such as electromagnetic locators and ground-penetrating radar Communicate clearly with contractors, field crews, and supervisors Ensure all markings comply with local, state, and company standards Maintain accurate documentation of work performed Follow all safety policies and procedures Drive company vehicle to job sites and maintain equipment in good working condition Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required Previous utility locating or related field experience preferred (training available for motivated candidates) Ability to read maps and technical drawings Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills Valid driver's license with clean driving record Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions Ability to walk long distances and lift up to 50 lbs Strong communication and organizational skills Preferred Skills Experience with electromagnetic locating equipment Knowledge of utility construction practices DOT or safety certifications (if applicable) Work Environment Primarily outdoor fieldwork Exposure to varying weather conditions Travel to multiple job sites daily Compensation & Benefits Competitive pay (based on experience) Health, dental, and vision insurance Paid time off and holidays Retirement plan options Company vehicle (if applicable) Ongoing training and advancement opportunities
