Groundhand / Lineman - Telecommunications $23-25/hour

  • Travel role with per diem + company-paid lodging Upstate Utility Services is a utility construction company building fiber optic networks across New York and Pennsylvania.
We're hiring entry-level Groundhands to support our telecom line crews. The Role As a Groundhand, you're the backbone of the line crew. You'll handle materials, assist with pole and cable work, run traffic control, operate ground equipment, and keep the job site safe and organized. It's hands-on, physically demanding outdoor work — and a proven entry point into the fiber optic trade. Travel — Read This First Our crews work a week-on rotation. You'll travel out with your crew Monday through Friday to job sites across New York and Pennsylvania, and you're home every weekend. The company pays for your lodging and provides a daily per diem for meals while you're on the road. What You'll Do Handle, load, and stage materials, cable, and equipment Assist the crew with pole setting, cable pulling, and line work Dig, set anchors, and help with underground and conduit work Run traffic control and flagging Keep tools, trucks, and work zones clean, organized, and safe Learn the trade as you go What You Need A strong work ethic and a willingness to learn Willingness to travel and be away Monday-Friday (home every weekend) Valid driver's license Able to work outdoors in all weather and regularly lift 55-75 lbs Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check
Pay:
$23.00 - $25.00 per hour
