Job Overview:
Assists with constructing, operating, and maintaining electrical lines and substations necessary to provide electrical service and security lighting. Helps with right-of-way clearing and maintenance, operating equipment, and systems necessary to perform work activities on both energized and non-energized lines. Works overtime and outage call-backs as needed and assigned.
Schedule:
Works Monday through Thursday, 8:00am to 6:00pm. On occasion, will be on-call during weekends, and holidays as needed.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Troubleshoots, maintains, and constructs sub-transmission, distribution, and low voltage electrical systems. Inspects, maintains, and operates a wide range of tools and equipment (i.e., bucket truck, digger derrick, forklift, stringing equipment, chainsaw, hydraulic, and hand tools). Performs right of way inspections and assists with vegetation management activities. Follows all company safety policies and best practices to maintain and promote a safe work environment. Needs to be able to respond to work site within 40 minutes. Performs other duties as assigned.
Specific Skills:
Effectively and professionally communicates with supervisors, co-workers, and the public. Ability to work in a team environment. Not afraid of heights. Ability to ground, frame, and install typical wood pole construction. Good understanding of power line construction to assist with gathering tools, equipment, and materials to complete assigned work activities. Capable of using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), cover-up goods, and electrical safety for live line work. Ability to safely operate a chainsaw from the ground and a bucket truck to assist with tree clearing around power lines. Proficient at wood pole climbing and using all fall-arresting equipment.
Minimum Education/Experience/Certifications & Licenses:
High School Diploma or equivalent with either 4 years of relevant line worker experience or completion of a Lineman Certification Program.
Valid Class A CDL Supervisory/Management Responsibilities:
N/A Physical Requirements :
Possess close visual acuity, acuity to determine accuracy, and acuity to operate machines, motor vehicles, and heavy equipment; ability to stand, walk, talk, crouch, push, pull, lift, grasp, repetitive motion, and exert up to 100lbs of force occasionally, 50lbs frequently, and 20lbs constantly.
Working Conditions :
Subject to activities outside, extreme cold and extreme heat for more than one hour, noise above ambient noise level, vibration, hazards such as moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working in high places, and exposure to high heat or chemicals.
