This position prepares technically and economically viable designs for extensions and modifications to the electric utility distribution system for BTU) Performs power line assessment activities and engineering field operations required to support the construction, inspection, maintenance, and accounting of overhead and underground electrical distribution facilities. Hiring Pay Rate $25.20-$29.00/hour (depending on qualifications) Work Schedule Monday-Friday; 8am-5pm
Responsibilities:
Makes initial contact with customers to understand electrical service requirements and evaluate existing electrical distribution facilities. Prepares designs for distribution overhead and underground electric utility line extensions and modifications to the electrical system that include detailed structural and electrical calculations as appropriate. Creates detailed plans, cost estimates, construction drawings, staking sheets, topographic profiles, work order layouts, maps and related drawings used in the planning, design, maintenance, and construction of electric facilities; utilizes PC and software applications to prepare and maintain project documentation. Uses AutoCAD to support project designs in Workstudio, and to help maintain electrical infrastructure records; assists with interfacing with other utility design and GIS software. Performs right-of-way field investigations, easement research and related support, as needed. Performs surveying functions such as staking lines, locating easements and rights-of-way, and gathering data necessary to prepare site profiles; delineates property boundaries according to legal descriptions, while considering possible land use restrictions, deeds, and/or other pertinent property records. Assembles material packages for electric distribution projects in advance of construction. Works with and assists other utility personnel to complete necessary field work and assists with producing project documents, standards, specifications, and other items as required in support of department and division responsibilities and goals. Performs related duties as required. Responds regularly and promptly to work.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
High School Diploma or GED plus 3 years of general engineering, design, or drafting experience or 3 years of experience in the electric industry in a technical-skilled trade that provides the skill set needed to perform the job. Equivalent combinations of related education, experience, certification, and training may also be considered.
Preferred:
An Associate's degree (or higher) or graduation from a vocational/technical school with significant coursework in engineering technology, drafting, design technology, or a similar area of study. Experience with GPS, engineering field staking software, and AutoCAD is a plus.
