Job Description

Job Summary:
Reports to the Electrical Superintendent and receives direction and instruction from him. Provides efficient operation of the departmental element to which assigned.
Supervision Received:
Work is performed under the general direction of the Electrical Superintendent.
Essential Job Functions:
1. Carry out in a safe, prompt, efficient, and workmanlike manner the instructions of the electrical superintendent. 2. Uses hot line tools appropriately. 3. Makes service connections. 4. Assists in installing transformers and other equipment. 5. Be knowledgeable of and apply accepted safety standards. Know the use of tools and be able to use them accordingly. 6. Assist in addressing service calls. 7. Respond to emergencies as directed. 8. Support and work within the policies of the city. Develop improved methods of operation. 9. Pulls stand-by duty on weekends and holidays. 10. Assists in construction, repair, and maintenance of overhead and underground electrical distribution systems.

Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge, skills, and abilities required: Knowledge of the safe servicing of electric systems. Knowledge in departmental operations and in safe operation of equipment used in the department. Knowledge of the provisions of the Texas Motor Vehicle Code relating to the operation of light and heavy motorized equipment to the extent they are used in the department. Skill to communicate verbally and in writing. Skill in performing work requiring strength and agility in all weather conditions. Skill to follow oral and written directions. Skill in performing routine vehicle and equipment maintenance. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to communicate effectively with the public. Ability to receive written and verbal instructions.
Qualifying Education and Experience:
High school degree or GED. Five years experience in hot line work. Valid Texas Class C Driver's License and ability to obtain a CDL. Any work experience resulting in acceptable proficiency level in the above required knowledge and skills will be considered as an acceptable substitute for education and experience requirements on a case-by-case basis.
