JOB PURPOSE:
Under the direction of the Supervisor - Line Maintenance, is responsible for performing journey-level tasks in constructing, maintaining and repairing distribution, underground and transmission lines.
EDUCATION AND/OR SPECIAL TRAINING
High School Diploma or equivalent. Successful completion of the Department of Labor, Bureau of Apprenticeship Training Program or another equivalent lineman training program.
EXPERIENCE AND MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Successful completion of the Department of Labor, Bureau of Apprenticeship Training Program or another equivalent lineman training program. Ability to acquire Barehand and All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) certification within three (3) months of employment. Experience in transmission and distribution construction materials and standards required. Must acquire Department of Transportation (DOT) certification within three (3) months of date of hire. Thorough knowledge of electric transmission and distribution circuits and related equipment. Ability to take measurements using such devices as volt/ohm meter and complete calculations required for line construction. Ability to read, interpret and communicate written job instructions, use technical manuals, maps and electrical blueprint information. Ability to use climbing tools and equipment such as pumps, shovels, hand tools, hydraulic and pneumatic tools, generators, ammeters, etc. Availability to work, out of town as needed, irregular or overtime hours and under unusual conditions. Must possess a valid driver's license and be in compliance as defined by the El Paso Electric Company's Driving Policy. Must pass a Human Performance Evaluation (HPE).
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Constructs, maintains, relocates, diagnoses problems and repairs distribution lines (overhead and underground) and power transformers. Installs, removes or changes equipment such as, but not limited to, poles, guy wires, cross arms, transformers and associated devices, sectionalizing switches, capacitors and street lighting. Works on High Voltages (69KV - 345KV) using Barehand and/or Hotstick method. Operates Company vehicles (i.e., bucket, boom, service trucks) and equipment on a daily basis on streets and in off-site locations. Climbs poles and structures on everyday basis and works from aerial devices at various heights in all weather conditions. Builds structures which support high voltage wires. Complies with all applicable Company policies, procedures and code of ethics as well as all applicable governmental laws and regulations to include employment, safety and environmental standards and regulations.
