Plus Job Summary:
We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Fiber Optic Line Locator to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for identifying, locating, and marking the paths of underground fiber optic cables and other utility lines to ensure safe excavation and construction activities. Your work will be critical in preventing damage to critical infrastructure and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Use electronic locating equipment to accurately identify and mark the location of underground fiber optic cables and related utilities. Interpret utility maps, blueprints, and GIS data to determine the approximate location of underground facilities. Mark cable locations using spray paint, flags, or other approved methods in accordance with industry standards and regulations. Communicate clearly with supervisors, contractors, utility owners, and the public regarding locate requests and findings. Respond to 811/One Call tickets and perform locates within the required timeframe. Maintain accurate records of completed locates, including maps, photographs, and documentation. Perform routine inspection and maintenance of locating equipment to ensure reliability and accuracy. Follow safety protocols and report any hazards or damages to supervisors immediately. Work outdoors in varying weather conditions and terrains.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to walk, stand, and work outdoors for extended periods. Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds. Comfortable working in potentially hazardous environments such as construction sites and roadways. This position is essential to maintaining the integrity of fiber optic infrastructure and ensuring safe construction practices.
