Job Description

Purpose:
Responsible for performing Apprentice Lineman Duties.
Qualifications:
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned. Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed. Safely works from a two-man bucket truck on de-energized primary line and equipment under the direct supervision of a Class A Lineman. Observes from a two-man bucket truck with Class A Lineman on energized line and equipment. Climbs poles and works at heights greater than six feet. Climbs poles and works de-energized secondary under the supervision of a Class A Lineman. Climbs poles and works de-energized primary under the supervision of a Class A Lineman. Ability to work Stand by with Class A Lineman. Regular punctual attendance. Ability to learn to read blueprints and staking sheets. Is responsible for following all safety rules and reading the safety manual. Ability to follow feeder route. Ability to work with crew and contractors in a cost-effective manner. Demonstrates CPR, First Aid, and the ability to apply safety rules. Demonstrates computer skills. Responsible for maintaining Apprenticeship records and bringing them to the Foreman and Superintendent for signatures.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED equivalent. Any combination of experience that would provide knowledge, skills, and abilities required to satisfy the completion of Lineman steps 1 and 2 of the City of Sanger Lineman Apprenticeship Program. of a four-year Apprentice Lineman program that is recognized by the Department of Labor or the equivalent.
Conditions of Employment:
Must be able to obtain a Class A Driver s License (CDL). Must pass a drug test, driver s license check, criminal history background check, and a social security number verification check. Must be able to respond when on call within 30 minutes. Ability to read and understand, and follow department safety rules. Ability to work courteously with other employees and customers. Ability to work within confined spaces. Ability to lead others in job-related matters.
Preferences:
Bilingual in Spanish.
Work Environment/Physical Requirements:
The work environment characteristics described herein represent those that an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Work is performed primarily in an office environment. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds and be able to push and pull up to fifty (50) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must possess adequate visual acuity and hearing ability sufficient to read, write, hear, and speak clearly in person and by telephone.
