Job Description

Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential Functions:
Watches and ensures lineman's safety when performing repair, maintenance and installation of electrical system Aides lineman in restoring, installing, repairing and maintenance of power lines by digging holes and setting new poles, stringing wire, obtaining and ensuring lineman has correct tools and equipment available, laying and terminating cable, etc in a safe, timely and accurate manner. Stocks and maintains electrical supplies in trucks; restock truck with items such as copper sleeves, secondary connectors, primary and secondary splices, taps, clamps, air seals, tamper proofs and water. Operates various types of equipment, hand and power tools such as shovel, hydraulic tools, boom truck, bucket truck, voltage meters, chain saw, etc in safe manner. Performs minor maintenance duties to equipment such as ensuring sufficient fuel and oil in trucks and ensuring cleanliness of trucks and equipment. Read electric meters
Additional Duties:
Participate in the maintenance and repair of City facilities and equipment. Perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Some knowledge of the methods and techniques used in operation, repair, installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of electric utility system. Some knowledge of various types of tools, equipment, and materials used in the operation, repair, installation, and maintenance of electric system. Skill in establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships with co-workers and other departments.
Ability to:
Ability to operate various types of equipment, hand tools, and power tools used in the Electric Department. Ability to read meters Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to complete pole climbing school within six months Ability to operate standard transmission vehicles
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience:
None required
Training:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by experience in the methods, procedures, and practices working with electricity or any combination of training and experience leading to the described level of knowledge and skill within six months
License or Certificate:
Have or ability to obtain Texas CDL, CPR and pole climbing and rescue within six months
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time in the maintenance, repair, and installation of electric systems Ability to climb as high as 40 feet while making repairs of, or installation of utility poles and electric power lines; ability to climb stairs, ladders and into equipment Ability to crawl, reach, bend, stoop, squat, kneel and twist in the repair, installation, and maintenance of electric lines and equipment; ability to reach overhead to obtain items or equipment from shelves and cabinets, and the repair, maintenance, and installation of electric power lines Ability to carry, balance objects, push, pull and lift materials and equipment weighing up to 60 lbs. Ability to operate foot controls on equipment and vehicles.
