Design for Tomorrow, Empower Each Other and Succeed Together. Summary Our Four Corners Power Plant has an immediate opening for a Substation Journeyman. The work hours for this position are Monday
  • Friday 6:00AM
  • 2:30PM (NM Time).
Minimum Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Must qualify as a Substation Journeyman
  • Completed a Registered Apprenticeship Program or an equivalent training program (as approved by APS T&D Technical & Safety Training) PLUS one year experience as a Substation Journeyman
  • Commercial Driver's License (Class "A") with ability to meet all DOT requirements. Must have at least a Class A CDL permit at the time of application, and a clean driving record.
  • If applying with a CDL Permit, a valid Class A CDL license (with no mechanical restrictions (i.e., airbrakes)) must be obtained prior to the official transfer/start date.
  • If applying with an out-of-state CDL, a valid Arizona Class A CDL license (with no mechanical restrictions (i.
e., airbrakes)) must be obtained within 30 days of the official transfer/start date.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Considerable experience performing journeyman-level high voltage substation duties with an electric utility or other entity operating and maintaining high voltage substation equipment preferred
  • Experienced in writing and executing switching orders, and basic computer skills such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • The ideal candidate filling this vacancy must be self-motivated, communicate and work well with others, and possess a positive attitude with the highest commitment to work safety.
Additional Information:
  • This position requires working with aerial equipment, which has weight restrictions of 300 lbs or less
  • Must live within reasonable distance (one (1) hour) from assigned Headquarters.

    Program must have a documented process for hours worked in the field in the work processes associated with the craft e.g. distribution, transmission, maintenance, etc. Registered apprenticeship programs for the trades in question require 7,000

  • 5 years). Program must have documented proof of completion of related education classroom courses. Registered apprenticeship programs require a minimum of 144 hours per year of related education courses during the course of the apprenticeship program
  • Journeyman level experience must be documented in writing if you are unable to provide us a certificate of completion of Registered Apprenticeship.
This will require a letter on company letterhead documenting your title, details of your roles and responsibilities, and length of time in that position. The Four Corners Fossil-Fuel Generating plant is located 18 miles west of Farmington, a community of about 40,000, in the northwest region of New Mexico. As a Safety Consultant at our Four Corners Power Plant, you'll play a critical role in protecting people, facilities, and the environment by developing, implementing, and evaluating programs that prevent incidents and promote a strong safety culture. In this role, you'll combine technical expertise, analytical skills, and proactive leadership to assess risks, identify trends, conduct inspections, and drive process improvements. You'll also provide training, guide emergency preparedness, and serve as a trusted consultant to both management and employees to minimize injuries, property damage, and environmental exposure.   • Create and implement safety and compliance programs that meet regulatory and organizational standards. Risk Analysis

  • Bachelor's degree in safety or related discipline
  • Five (5) years of professional safety related field experience
  • OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A working knowledge of Federal, State and local Safety/Health Regulations.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills.
  • Basic Computer skills.
Major Accountabilities 1) Plan, develop, implement and audit comprehensive safety programs to assist management in achieving corporate safety goals. 2) Survey facilities and operations for safety, environmental, fire and industrial hygiene risks and provide assistance with development of action plans to correct problems. 3) Interpret new safety/health regulations, design appropriate policies and procedures and advise management on preferred course of action. 4) Audit the activities of safety committees and provide technical assistance to them. 5) Maintain an effective safety/health resource library to provide assistance to all departments. 6) Counsel management, employees and union representatives to ensure consistent interpretations and revisions of the accident prevention manual. 7) Represent the company with Federal and State OSHA Agencies. 8) Provide CPR, First Aid and other designated training to identified employees. CIP Requirement:
This position requires Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) access consistent with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards. The applicant considered for this role will be required to obtain and maintain CIP access for the duration of employment in this position. A full seven (7) year criminal history will be obtained through the pre-employment background check process (or, for current employees, through supplemental background check process) to fulfill the CIP access requirements. In addition, this position requires an additional background check every seven years to maintain access.

Requires work to be performed in the field and/or at an APS facility. Depending on the responsibilities of the role, this may include, but is not limited to, working at a power plant, job site, or in the community.
