Position Overview The A.O. Smith Maintenance Apprenticeship Program is a paid, full‑time, 4‑year training program designed to develop highly skilled maintenance technicians for our McBee manufacturing facility. This 8,000‑hour program combines on‑the‑job learning, structured mentorship, and in‑person classroom instruction through Northeastern Technical College (NETC). Apprentices rotate through multiple maintenance areas, gaining exposure to a wide range of equipment, systems, and technologies used in modern manufacturing. This program is ideal for individuals who enjoy hands‑on work, problem‑solving, and continuous learning. Key Responsibilities Participate in paid, hands‑on maintenance training under the guidance of experienced mentors Rotate through multiple maintenance areas to gain broad technical exposure Learn and apply skills in:
  • Workplace safety
  • Equipment operation and troubleshooting
  • Industrial electricity (AC/DC circuits, motor controls)
  • Hydraulics and pneumatics
  • Welding
  • Mechanical power applications
  • Lubrication and preventative maintenance
  • Print reading, mechanical drawing, and machine tool practices
  • Product Data Management (PDM) technologies Attend required classroom instruction at NETC (minimum one class per semester; 576 total hours) Demonstrate proficiency in all required competencies and complete evaluations every six months Maintain accurate training documentation and meet all program expectations What You Will Learn How to safely operate, maintain, and troubleshoot industrial machinery Electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems used in manufacturing Welding fundamentals and machine tool practices How to read prints, schematics, and technical diagrams Preventative and predictive maintenance techniques Real‑world problem‑solving in a fast‑paced production environment Professional communication, teamwork, and technical documentation How Our Values Shape This Role Respect — You'll work in an environment where every voice is valued and teamwork is essential.
