POSITION
Maintenance Assistant – 260 Day Contract
POSITION SUMMARY
Beaver Local School District is seeking a reliable and hardworking individual with a diverse skill set to join our maintenance team. The Maintenance Assistant will play a vital role in supporting the upkeep, repair, and overall functionality of district facilities and grounds. The ideal candidate will be capable of performing hands-on maintenance and repairs across school buildings, ensuring a safe and well-maintained environment for students and staff. This position also requires a working knowledge of athletic field and grounds care, including mowing, field preparation, and general landscape maintenance. Candidates should possess a foundational understanding of building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical. The ability to troubleshoot and assist with a wide range of maintenance tasks is essential. The selected candidate will be required to obtain appropriate certification for the application of herbicides and pesticides in accordance with state regulations. This position requires a dependable individual who can work independently, respond to maintenance needs in a timely manner, and contribute positively as part of a team.
QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma; Associate or Equivalent required Valid Driver's license required Minimum of 2-3 years of maintenance, groundskeeping or facilities experience preferred Possession of a valid Ohio Commercial Pesticide Applicator License (or ability to obtain within a specified time) Experience in turf management and athletic field maintenance preferred Knowledge of building systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical) preferred
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & COMPLIANCE
Basic knowledge of building maintenance systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry Understanding of groundskeeping practices, including athletic field maintenance and turf care Familiarity with maintenance tools, equipment, and materials General knowledge of safety practices related to facilities maintenance and equipment use Ability to read and interpret basic manuals, work orders, and instructions
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform routine maintenance and repairs on district buildings and equipment Assist with preventative maintenance programs to ensure longevity of facilities Maintain and care for athletic fields and school grounds, including mowing, lining, and seasonal upkeep Assist with snow removal, salting, and weather-related facility needs Respond promptly to maintenance requests and work orders Support event setup and teardown for school and community activities Identify and report safety hazards or needed repairs Assist other maintenance and custodial staff as needed

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions Exposure to equipment, machinery, and maintenance-related hazards Physical demands include lifting, bending, climbing ladders, and prolonged standing or walking May require occasional evening or weekend hours for events, emergencies, or seasonal work Fast-paced environment with varying daily tasks and priorities
