Job Description

Maintenance Assistant will be required to work inside, outside, and around a detention center setting. Duties Include but are not limited to: Clean debris and dust from the assigned areas. Use specialized equipment such as blowers and mowers to perform cleaning duties. Perform major and minor repair work through-out agency facilities such as repairing and replacing locks and windows. Remove signs of graffiti from walls and windows. Install and repair electrical wiring and replace bulbs and capacitors. Ensure control panels and electric locks are in proper working condition. Install television and computer hardware and cables. Routinely inspect company equipment for possible problems and report any findings. Take measures to perform maintenance on equipment and tools. Perform general maintenance on sanitary and mechanical systems throughout agency facilities. Collect waste from waste bins and ensure proper waste management procedures are carried out. Assist with construction, remodeling, and expansion projects. Move or arrange furniture and equipment properly and promptly upon instruction. Maintain the overall condition of the agency facilities and its grounds. Ensure that the grounds are maintained, and grass is kept clean, cut, and free of leaves, debris, or litter. Perform inspection of the premises and ensure that any hazardous conditions or material are immediately properly addressed or disposed of. Responsible for custody and control of prisoners; security of facilities; physical movement of inmates. Completes facility logs. Reports all maintenance problems and unsafe conditions. Escorts offenders into surroundings requiring contact with other staff and potentially the public. Contacts and interacts with federal, state, and local police agencies and sheriffs' offices within, and outside, of the state and maintains professional courtesy. Observes offenders' activities to detect unusual or prohibited behavior that might be a threat to the security and safety of fellow employees, other offenders, and the public. Observes and immediately reports all incidents such as assaults on employees or offenders, offender disturbances, or other situations threatening the security of the mission. Make prompt decisions quickly in both routine and non-routine situations including those situations that would be considered "life and death". Follows departmental security policies and procedures. Maintains vigilant adherence to all departmental procedures. Write clearly and concisely, use acceptable grammar and spelling; write reports that are complete and accurate. Responsible for conducting searches of facility and inmate's person to minimize the introduction of contraband through unauthorized avenues. Acts as auxiliary of security staff in times of need. Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
High school diploma, GED certification, or equivalent required. A valid driver's license is required. Demonstrate the ability to complete any required training. Must be available to work any hours, any shift.
Minimum age requirement:
Must be at least 18 years of age. Internships will be considered.

$15.00-$21.19 (Depending on experience)
