Job Description

Specific duties to be performed may include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Perform a variety of semi-skilled maintenance, repair, installation, and construction tasks in one or more of the mechanical (HVAC), carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, and masonry trades
  • Work under the direction of a field supervisor and follow written and verbal instructions
  • Operate equipment such as trucks, tractors, front end loaders, mowers, chain saws, power tools, etc.
  • Possess working knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in trades to which assigned
  • Perform moderate to heavy manual labor
  • Maintain records of work completed via spreadsheet
  • Perform grounds keeping and landscaping duties as needed including road and trail maintenance, mowing and weed whacking, and building maintenance and repairs
  • Perform snow removal
Project Funding and Duration:
This Maintenance Assistant position is a seasonal 6-month position working 40 hours/week Monday-Friday, with NYS DEC. The typical workday is 8:00am
  • 4:30pm, with a 30-minute lunch break.
The start date of this position is May 1st and is anticipated to end October 31, 2026, but may continue if funding is available.
Benefits:
This position has the option to join the NYS Employee's Retirement System and the CSEA Union. This position is eligible to receive certifications for the following, but are not limited to: NYS DEC CPR/First Aid NYS Game of Logging NYS Annual Trainings Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain, work in remote areas and in adverse weather conditions.
