Job Title:
Maintenance Mechanic Job Description The Maintenance Mechanic will perform preventive and corrective maintenance on a wide range of production equipment, with a strong focus on electrical controls and mechanical systems. This role requires advanced troubleshooting skills in PLCs, inverter drives, pneumatics, hydraulics, pumps, bearings, chains and belting, conveying systems, valves, and general mechanical components. The ideal candidate works effectively in a fast-paced, team-based environment and supports safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all facility equipment. Responsibilities Perform preventive maintenance on assigned production and facility equipment to minimize downtime and extend equipment life. Troubleshoot and repair electrical control systems, including PLCs, inverter drives, and related components. Diagnose and repair mechanical systems, including pumps, bearings, chains, belting, conveying systems, valves, and associated hardware. Use basic blueprint reading and schematic interpretation to identify issues and complete repairs accurately. Respond promptly to maintenance calls during production hours and resolve issues with a strong sense of urgency. Record daily meter readings, including utility usage and boiler chemistry, and maintain accurate sanitation-related records as required. Perform electrical troubleshooting to identify root causes of equipment failures and implement effective corrective actions. Carry out hydraulic and pneumatic system troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs. Support welding and fabrication tasks as needed to repair or modify equipment and structures. Assist in training new employees on correct machinery operation and basic equipment care. Follow established safety and quality procedures while performing all maintenance activities. Access and navigate all areas of the facility and equipment to inspect, maintain, and repair machinery. Collaborate with team members and production staff to prioritize work orders and support continuous operations. Maintain tools, parts, and work areas in an organized, safe, and clean condition. Essential Skills Minimum of two years of electrical experience in an industrial or similar environment. Strong troubleshooting ability in the electrical control field, including PLCs and inverter drives. Hands-on experience with pneumatics, hydraulics, pumps, bearings, chains, and belting. Proficiency in troubleshooting and maintaining conveying systems and valves. Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints and electrical or mechanical schematics. Demonstrated mechanical troubleshooting skills in a production or maintenance setting. Experience performing preventive maintenance on industrial equipment. Strong communication skills to work effectively with team members and production personnel. Flexible schedule, including availability to work weekends and holidays as needed. Strong safety and quality awareness, with the ability to follow and promote safe work practices. Ability to access and navigate all areas of the facilities and all parts of company equipment. Proven history of being a positive, self-driven team player who can work at a fast pace in a team-based environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience as a maintenance technician in a manufacturing or industrial environment. Hands-on experience with PLC troubleshooting and electrical troubleshooting in production equipment. Experience in welding and basic fabrication for equipment repair and modification. Familiarity with documenting meter readings, boiler chemistry, and sanitation records. Experience working in fast-paced production environments with frequent maintenance calls. Engineering or technical experience related to maintenance, electrical, or mechanical systems is beneficial. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a non-climate-controlled environment, where temperatures may vary with the seasons. You will work in and around production equipment, utilities, and facility systems, frequently accessing different areas of the plant and various parts of the machinery. The position supports production operations, so hours may include weekends and holidays, with the need to respond to maintenance calls during active production. Work involves hands-on use of tools and equipment for electrical troubleshooting, mechanical repairs, welding, and fabrication, while adhering to all safety procedures and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment as required. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Selma, AL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $28.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
