Job Title:
Maintenance Mechanic & Robotics Technician Job Description This role supports the operations maintenance team by installing, maintaining, and repairing automated packaging, distribution, and material handling equipment, including mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and robotic systems. You will perform preventative and corrective maintenance, troubleshoot complex issues, and help keep high-tech fulfillment operations running safely and efficiently. In addition, you will have the opportunity to mentor junior technicians and expand your skills in advanced automation and robotics within a collaborative, growth-oriented environment. Responsibilities Promote a safe working environment by consistently following all safety procedures, lockout/tagout practices, and site-specific safety protocols. Perform scheduled preventative maintenance routines on material handling equipment, robotics, and related systems, and complete all required documentation accurately and on time. Troubleshoot and repair electrical and mechanical issues on material handling equipment, including motors, conveyors, belts, photo-eyes, relays, sensors, and associated control components. Install, maintain, and repair automated packaging and distribution equipment, ensuring minimal downtime and high system reliability. Support and maintain pneumatic systems, including diagnosing leaks, replacing components, and ensuring proper operation of actuators and valves. Use hand and power tools, diagnostic instruments, multimeters, and other test equipment to identify and resolve equipment faults. Conduct predictive and preventative maintenance procedures, including inspections, adjustments, lubrication, and parts replacement, to extend equipment life and prevent failures. Diagnose and repair issues in electromechanical and robotic systems, including basic input/output troubleshooting and component-level replacement. Read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, and electrical schematics to plan and execute maintenance and repair activities. Perform basic metal and wood fabrication tasks as needed to support equipment installation, modification, and repair. Track, manage, and store department inventory, including spare parts, tools, and consumables, to ensure availability for maintenance activities. Maintain clear, professional communication and a positive working relationship with operations and maintenance teams across the facility. Utilize a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to log work orders, record maintenance activities, track equipment history, and monitor key performance indicators. Participate in reliability and continuous improvement efforts, including root cause analysis of recurring issues and implementation of corrective actions. Provide guidance and mentorship to junior technicians, sharing best practices in safety, troubleshooting, and maintenance techniques. Support project-related work, including equipment upgrades, installations, and process improvements, and assist with basic project management tasks as needed. Travel as required (up to approximately 20%) to support equipment installation, maintenance, or training at other facilities, including periodic travel to Connecticut until local equipment is fully operational. Perform work in physically demanding conditions, including lifting parts and tools, standing and walking for long shifts, and working in environments with dust, noise, temperature variations, and confined spaces. Work flexible schedules and shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to support a 24/7 operation and respond to urgent maintenance needs. Essential Skills High school diploma or equivalent. At least 1 year of technical or maintenance-related experience in an industrial, mechanical, electrical, or electromechanical environment. Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting experience, particularly with motors, conveyors, and sensors such as photo-eyes. Experience performing preventative maintenance (PM) tasks and documenting work performed. Basic knowledge of material handling equipment (MHE), including conveyors and automated handling systems. Ability to diagnose and repair automated systems, including mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic components. Familiarity with pneumatic systems and their maintenance. Basic PC competency, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Ability to work flexible schedules, shifts, and areas, including weekends, nights, and holidays. Strong safety mindset with consistent adherence to safety protocols and procedures. Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional operations and maintenance teams. Physical capability to perform industrial work, including repetitive bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, twisting, sitting, standing, and walking. Ability to lift parts and tools averaging around 20 pounds and occasionally up to 49 pounds. Dexterity in eye/hand coordination and use of feet for foot pedals, as well as manual picking, pinching, holding, grasping, and repetitive wrist motion. Comfort working in conditions that may include small spaces, dust, fumes or odors, hot and cold temperatures (inside and outside), noise, vibration, standing on concrete for long periods, and wet or uneven surfaces. Additional Skills & Qualifications Associate degree or higher from a vocational school or college with a focus in mechanical or electrical fields. At least 2 years of experience with automated conveyor systems and controls. At least 2 years of experience in the repair of material handling equipment. At least 2 years of experience conducting predictive and preventative maintenance procedures. At least 1 year of metal and wood fabrication experience. At least 1 year of experience reading blueprints and electrical schematics. At least 1 year of experience with electrical and electronic principles. Experience with Material Handling Equipment (MHE) safety standards in accordance with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and applicable safety standards. Project management experience supporting maintenance or engineering initiatives. Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for work orders, asset management, and maintenance tracking. Experience with robotic or electromechanical operation and maintenance. Ability to troubleshoot basic input and output (I/O) functions on automated systems. Exposure to Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), such as Allen-Bradley or Siemens. Experience troubleshooting Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs). Basic understanding of networking concepts for industrial systems, such as Ethernet/IP or fieldbus. Experience with sensor calibration and advanced diagnostics. Familiarity with servo motors and motion control systems. Knowledge of root cause analysis (RCA) methodologies, such as 5 Whys and fishbone diagrams. Understanding of reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) concepts and condition-based monitoring techniques, including vibration analysis and thermal imaging. Experience tracking maintenance-related KPIs, such as uptime, mean time between failures (MTBF), and mean time to repair (MTTR). Proficiency with power tools, multimeters, oscilloscopes, and calibration tools. Welding, machining, or fabrication certifications are a plus. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a large, high-tech industrial facility operating on a 24/7 schedule, with typical shifts of 10-12 hours and a workweek generally consisting of 3 or 4 days. You will work in a fast-paced, highly hands-on environment that blends preventative maintenance with urgent repair work on automated material handling, packaging, and robotic systems. The position requires openness to all shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and the ability to stand and walk for extended periods on concrete floors. Working conditions may include small or confined spaces, exposure to dust, fumes or odors, hot and cold temperatures both indoors and outdoors, elevated noise levels, vibration, and wet or uneven surfaces. The role involves frequent use of hand and power tools, multimeters, diagnostic equipment, and other industrial instruments. You must be able to lift parts and tools averaging around 20 pounds and occasionally up to 49 pounds, and perform repetitive bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, twisting, and wrist motion. Travel is required on an intermittent basis, including trips to Connecticut until local machines are fully operational; while traveling, lodging and per diem are provided. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Niagara Falls, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $27.36/hr.
