Job Title:
1st Shift Maintenance Planner Job Description The 1st Shift Maintenance Planner plays a pivotal role in developing, implementing, planning, and documenting preventative, predictive, and project maintenance strategies for all plant and facility equipment. This position defines and tracks maintenance schedules, estimates required hours, parts, and supply costs, and ensures that all resources are available to complete work efficiently. The role collaborates closely with Engineering, Production, and the Maintenance Management team to build and sustain a comprehensive maintenance program that supports high levels of operational efficiency and equipment reliability. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and comfortable working within an Oracle-based CMMS environment to coordinate maintenance activities from initial work order through completion. Responsibilities Develop, implement, and maintain preventative and predictive maintenance strategies for plant and facility equipment. Plan, schedule, and document project maintenance activities to support production and reliability goals. Review work orders, estimate required parts and materials, and determine labor and time needed to complete the work. Coordinate with Production to determine optimal downtime windows for maintenance activities and minimize impact on operations. Ensure all required parts, tools, and supplies are available and staged prior to scheduled maintenance. Partner with the Maintenance Manager to strategize timing, staffing, and labor allocation for maintenance tasks. Use an Oracle-based CMMS (Oracle WBN) to create, update, and track maintenance work orders, schedules, and documentation. Monitor and track maintenance hours, parts usage, and supply costs, and provide accurate estimates for planned work. Collaborate with Engineering and other locations to bid out programs and projects and support cross-functional maintenance initiatives. Assist in developing, implementing, and refining maintenance policies, processes, and rules to improve reliability and efficiency. Support the development and planning of predictive and preventative maintenance programs for tool and die and other manufacturing equipment. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in maintenance planning, scheduling, and execution. Independently troubleshoot issues related to maintenance planning and prioritize tasks based on urgency and operational impact. Utilize strong computer and Excel skills to analyze maintenance data, generate reports, and support decision-making. Work closely with maintenance technicians, production staff, and engineering teams to foster teamwork and achieve maintenance objectives. Contribute to a safe and organized maintenance and tool & die environment by supporting best practices and adherence to safety procedures. Essential Skills 5-7+ years of experience in manufacturing planning, production scheduling, or maintenance planning. Hands-on knowledge of maintenance operations in a manufacturing environment. Experience working with CMMS systems, specifically Oracle WBN. Knowledge of tool and die manufacturing processes and equipment. Proven experience developing and planning predictive and preventative maintenance programs. Comfort creating, implementing, and following policies, processes, and rules related to maintenance activities. Experience bidding out programs and projects in partnership with Engineering and other locations. Strong computer proficiency, with advanced skills in Microsoft Excel. Ability to problem-solve independently and prioritize multiple tasks effectively. Ability to work within a structured maintenance planning framework and meet deadlines. Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with Production, Engineering, and Maintenance Management. Additional Skills & Qualifications Bachelor's degree preferred. Background in automotive manufacturing is highly beneficial. Previous lead or supervisory experience in maintenance, manufacturing, or related functions. Continuous improvement experience, including Lean or Six Sigma methodologies. Some form of formal training in maintenance, manufacturing, or continuous improvement. Experience as a Maintenance Manager or Maintenance Supervisor who prefers a planning-focused role. Exposure to PLC troubleshooting and Fanuc robotics. Journeyman card or equivalent formal trade certification is a plus. Why Work Here? Work Environment This is a 1st shift, hourly, direct placement role working Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The facility is very large, bright, clean, and well-organized, with a substantial maintenance and tool & die shop that supports a wide range of equipment. Certain areas, particularly those with stamping equipment, can be loud, and appropriate hearing protection and safety practices are expected. The work environment is highly collaborative, with close interaction between maintenance, production, and engineering teams. Technology in use includes an Oracle-based CMMS (Oracle WBN), Microsoft Excel, and modern manufacturing and maintenance equipment, including robotics and PLC-controlled systems. Uniforms are available and provided if desired, supporting a professional and practical dress standard suitable for an industrial setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Middlebury, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $83000.00 - $100000.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
