GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Performs complex (journey-level) building maintenance and construction work. Maintains and repairs buildings, utility systems, vehicles, and other equipment and grounds. May provide guidance to others on construction, maintenance, or repair projects. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. May be required to work in excess of 40 hours per work week and be on-call.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Services and maintains all assigned maintenance equipment and hand tools to ensure prolonged and safe usage. Works from and completes work orders to ensure assignments are completed in a timely manner. Performs maintenance, construction, and repair work such as plumbing, painting, masonry, welding, carpentry, painting, electrical, mechanical, etc. in compliance with TJJD Maintenance and Operations Manual and standard trade practices. Performs carpentry work such as the installation, alteration, repair and maintenance of buildings, doors, windows, wood fixtures, and furniture. Performs inspections of equipment, operating machinery, systems, building accessories, and appliances to ensure proper maintenance and repair. Identifies mechanical problems and determines how to fix problems. Requisitions materials and supplies for assigned tasks in compliance with procurement procedures. Assists with other jobs to ensure facility and equipment is properly maintained including grounds keeping and auto mechanics. May assist in assembling, installing, repairing, and maintaining modular furniture systems. May train others. Performs a variety of related duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed. Performs all duties in compliance with agency safety policies and procedures: Reports safety hazards and corrects hazards when possible. Completes required documentation in the event of an accident/injury within requested timeframes. Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency attendance and leave policies. Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma or equivalent. Two (2) years of full-time wage-earning experience in maintenance mechanic or related building construction experience, such as welding, plumbing, automotive and small appliance repair, landscaping, painting, air conditioning, building trades, carpentry, electrical/electronic repair, or other maintenance related field.
Preferred:
Forty (40) hours of approved and documented maintenance continuing education credits/hours from seminars, workshops, classroom or independent study.
Experience and Education Substitutions:
Six (6) additional years of full-time wage-earning experience in maintenance mechanic or related building construction experience, such as welding, plumbing, automotive and small appliance repair, landscaping, painting, air conditioning, building trades, carpentry, electrical/electronic repair, or other maintenance related field may substitute for High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Vocational education may substitute for experience on a basis of 30 semester hours for one year of experience.
Completed course hours of undergraduate study may substitute for up to four years of experience on a basis of 30 course hours for one year of experience. Pro-rated part-time experience may satisfy the experience requirement.
Note:
Any degree, diploma, high school equivalent, or course hours required to meet minimum qualifications must be obtained from an accredited educational institution, college or university.
