At UConn, the MS2- Utilities position is responsible for leading and supervising highly skilled trades workers and apprentices in the repair and maintenance of all above and underground utilities, which includes, but is not limited to steam, condensate, water, sewage, storm, reclaim water and chilled water. The MS2
- Utilities position is also responsible for supervising highly skilled trades workers and apprentices in performing sitework related tasks which includes, but is not limited to, paving, grading, excavation, rebuilding and cleaning of catch basins, repair, removal and installation of sidewalks.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY
Considerable knowledge of relevant state and national codes and regulations; modern methods and equipment involved in the trade indicated by the parenthetical of the class; Considerable interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills; Skill in performing technical duties of the class; Considerable ability to read and interpret specifications, blueprints, and sketches; Ability to utilize computer software; Supervisory ability.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Incumbents in this class may be required by the appointing authority to possess and retain appropriate current licenses, permits and/or certifications including possession and retention of a license as an Unlimited Journeyperson in the trade area indicated by the parenthetical title. Incumbents in this class may be required to travel. Applicants must possess and maintain a current motor vehicle operator license throughout employment with the University.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience serving in a leadership capacity that includes demonstrated experience in the supervision of employees serving in a wide range of skilled job classifications such as Student Labor Apprentices, Skilled Trades Apprentices and Quality Craft Workers (QCW's). Eight years of experience working for a university, municipality or construction company specializing in underground utility work related to steam, condensate, water, sewage, storm, reclaim water and/or chilled water, including the maintenance and repair of the affiliated distribution systems, and sanitary and storm water collection systems. Experience communicating effectively through both verbal and written methods. Experience using computer software such as AiM, HuskyBuy, Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and/or Kuali Financial System (KFS). Demonstrated experience in the use of computerized maintenance management software (CMMS) including the use in the automation of such functions as service request/work order processing and work scheduling. Experience using an I-Pad or similar technology. Experience serving as a job search committee member to evaluate application materials and conduct interviews. Demonstrated experience in completing employee work performance evaluations. Experience completing purchasing related tasks such as obtaining price quotes, reviewing and approving invoices and/or participation in writing RFP's (Request for Proposal) in the Utilities field of work. Knowledge of the management and removal of regulated materials as well as knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, nationally recognized standards and guidelines, as related to occupational safety and health. Familiarity with Connecticut Public Health Code Regulations and Connecticut DEEP Regulations. Knowledge of American Water Works Association (A.W.W.A.) standards. Heavy equipment operator skills and experience. Possession of a Commercial Driver's License. Experience performing sitework related tasks. Confined space training and experience. Knowledge and experience in performing markouts through CBYD. Knowledgeable of the NP-2 contract and University policies and procedures. Experience working with the university payroll system CORE-CT. Experience working extended hours during emergencies, weather related circumstances, or special projects in varying climatic and temperature conditions.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Incumbents in this class must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility and visual and auditory acuity, and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties. A physical examination may be required. Incumbents in this class will be required to drive and operate motor vehicles, including, but not limited to vans, box trucks, and pick-up trucks ranging in size from compact, midsize, full-size, and heavy-duty, some of which are equipped with lift gates. Incumbents in this class may also be required to operate heavy equipment such as a backhoe, excavator, skid steer, dozer, etc. Incumbents in this class must have adequate physical strength and agility to walk up and down stairs frequently and climb ladders independently. Must be able to lift, carry and push material weighing up to 75 lbs. Must have the ability to utilize ladders, scaffolding, high-lifts and enter confined spaces. Must be able to inspect, troubleshoot and repair equipment that is part of a wide range of utility and mechanical systems. Incumbents must possess the ability to utilize tools, perform the required duties set forth above and will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary.WORKING CONDITIONS
Incumbents in this class may be required to lift moderate to heavy weights; may be exposed to extreme weather conditions and to risk of injury from equipment. The appointing authority may require completion of an asbestos removal program consistent with EPA guidelines for operations and maintenance during employment in this class.
