Full Job Description Position Summary:
The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the maintenance operations in the coil coating facility, ensuring the continuous performance of machinery such as coating lines, ovens, conveyors, and furnaces. This role supervises maintenance staff, coordinates preventative maintenance, leads troubleshooting efforts, and ensures compliance with safety and regulatory standards, all while maintaining equipment uptime and production efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervision & Team Management:
Supervise, train, and develop a team of maintenance mechanics, providing both hands-on guidance and leadership in maintenance activities. Coordinate and delegate tasks related to troubleshooting, repairs, and preventive maintenance of critical equipment, such as coating lines, uncoilers, recoilers, tension levelers, and curing ovens. Maintain efficient shift coverage to ensure continuous operation while managing maintenance resources.
Predictive & Preventive Maintenance Execution:
Develop and oversee Predictive and Preventive Maintenance utilizing condition monitoring techniques such as vibration analysis, infrared thermography, and oil analysis. Utilize reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) principles to analyze equipment failure modes and improve asset lifecycle management strategies. Schedule and execute detailed inspections, lubrication, and calibration of critical systems including mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic components.
Troubleshooting & Corrective Maintenance:
Lead and support troubleshooting efforts for complex mechanical and electrical failures, identifying root causes and implementing effective corrective actions. Perform hands-on repairs and calibrations on high-precision equipment, including programmable logic controllers (PLCs), motors, and pumps.
CMMS & Maintenance Workflow Optimization:
Manage and maintain the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), ensuring accurate work order generation, parts inventory, and maintenance scheduling. Leverage CMMS data to assess equipment performance, and track KPIs such as MTTR (Mean Time to Repair), MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures), and work order backlog.
Safety & Regulatory Compliance:
Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, PPE requirements, and other site-specific safety measures. Lead safety audits, conduct risk assessments for equipment and processes, and ensure compliance with OSHA and environmental regulations. Collaboration with
Production & Operations:
Work closely with production teams to coordinate maintenance schedules and minimize downtime, ensuring that maintenance activities do not disrupt production flows. Provide real-time support for production issues, including responding to breakdowns and prioritizing urgent maintenance needs. Ensure proper documentation of maintenance activities and changes made to equipment that impact production processes.
Inventory & Spare Parts Management:
Oversee the management of critical spare parts, ensuring that inventory levels are maintained and that spare parts procurement is efficient. Work with suppliers to source parts and materials as needed, ensuring that parts are of high quality and delivered in a timely manner to reduce downtime.
Working Conditions:
Operates in a manufacturing and heavy industrial environment, with exposure to moving machinery, high temperatures, airborne particulates, and chemical coatings. Works in both office and production areas, requiring frequent hands-on troubleshooting. Requires flexibility to respond to emergency breakdowns and be on-call for critical failures. Uses personal protective equipment (PPE) such as steel-toe boots, and hearing protection.
Qualifications:
Education/Experience:
High school diploma or GED required. Associate's degree or technical certification in Industrial Maintenance, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field preferred. Minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial maintenance, with at least 2 years supervising. Proficiency in troubleshooting and maintaining industrial equipment such as coating lines, furnaces, uncoilers, recoilers, and tension levelers. Hands-on experience with PLCs, VFDs, electrical circuits, and motor controls. Knowledge of CMMS software, failure analysis techniques, and asset management.
Behavioral Competencies:
Strong leadership and team management skills with a focus on developing and mentoring technicians. Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to quickly assess issues and implement solutions. Strong communication skills to coordinate with other departments, report on maintenance activities and provide technical support. Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a focus on safety.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in confined spaces, high elevations, and extreme temperatures. Exposure to high temperatures, coatings, solvents, and rotating machinery. On-call availability for emergency maintenance. Ability to detect abnormal machine noises, alarms, and troubleshooting signals.
