Job Description

What You Will Do This position is open for external candidates only to apply. This position will be filled at either the Maintenance Support Specialist 1/2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level. The Office of Improvement (MSS-OOI) supports the successful execution of the institutional maintenance program by conducting annual Conduct of Maintenance assessments in accordance with current policies and NNSA direction. Responsibilities include evaluating program effectiveness, identifying areas for improvement, managing document control processes, and overseeing the implementation of corrective actions and continuous process improvements at both the institutional and facility levels. We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Support Specialist to fill the Maintenance and Site Services Office of Improvements, Conduct of Maintenance Assessment team member role. This position reports to the Maintenance Manager for MSS-OOI Office of Improvement, and the Assessment team lead. Maintenance Support Specialist 1 ($60,500 - $93,600) The selected candidate will provide technical support on Conduct of Maintenance Assessments conducted on both nuclear and non-nuclear facilities across the Los Alamos National Laboratory. As a member of the maintenance assessment team, you will support all nuclear and non-nuclear maintenance programs which includes facility real property and programmatic equipment credited in the nuclear facilities safety basis. These assessments will be conducted in accordance with P950 Conduct of Maintenance, DOE Order 433.1b Maintenance Management Program for DOE Nuclear Facilities, and DOE O 430.1b Real Property Asset Management, as well as applicable codes, standards, Laboratory policies and manufacturer recommendations. You will also provide expertise with creation, review and revision of conduct of maintenance assessment reports. As the Maintenance support specialist for Conduct of Maintenance, your primary responsibility will be to be to support all LANL Conduct of Maintenance assessments. Duties will include interacting with multiple entities across the laboratory including but not limited to Department of Energy, engineering, maintenance personnel, Facility Operations Directors, Operations Personnel, building representatives and managers. You will be expected to work with a team to support all conduct of maintenance assessments, including document review, field walk downs, maintenance observations, assessment interviews, and report write-up. You will support assessments using the graded approach in support of P950. Maintenance Support Specialist 2 ($72,800 - $115,400) In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level this position will: Interpret governmental regulations and Laboratory policies impacting the maintenance program to ensure compliance. Develop, monitor and validate accuracy, and auditing performance data, reports, and other statistical information to ensure compliance. Evaluate and recommend processes, programs, and procedures for potential improvements. Provide issues management support, reviews and compile data, and develop final assessments and/or recommendations. Perform or assist in performing periodic reviews and assessments to ensure maintenance programs are implemented. May serve as liaison between the Laboratory and various governmental agencies.
What You Need Minimum Job Requirements:
Technical Expertise:
Entry-level knowledge of maintenance documents, to include, but not limited to entry-level knowledge of government and industry regulations affecting maintenance and site services, entry-level knowledge in maintenance, assessments, inspection and testing including facility real property and programmatic equipment.
Technology:
Ability to prepare and present reports. Entry-level knowledge of maintenance program systems. Knowledge of and experience with document control and records management.
Communication:
Skill in written and verbal communication skills, including entry-level experience in technical writing, preparing technical reports and documents, and developing and giving verbal presentations to small groups. Entry-level interpersonal, written, and verbal communication. Ability to conceptualize and communicate major elements of processes supporting the maintenance program to both technical and non-technical personnel. Ability to work independently, under minimal direction. Additional Job Requirements for Maintenance Support Specialist 2: In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:
Program Coordination:
Ability to learn assessing, reviewing, and coordinating comprehensive assessment plans and final reports. Ability to successfully plan, organize, and monitor team efforts to completion.
Communication:
Experience researching, analyzing, and resolving problems and both independently and as a team member and regarding issues affecting facility maintenance. Ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel, build trust, gain consensus, and resolve conflict. Education/Experience at Maintenance Support Specialist 1 level: Position requires a minimum of 2 years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Education/Experience at Maintenance Support Specialist 2 level: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
LANL Assessment Training Qualifications. Experience using CMMS software, such as Asset Suite. Experience using databases to run reports.
Work Location:
The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position Commitment:
Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Clearance:
Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements• for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance, and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad. •Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. New-Employment Drug Test:
The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
