Job Description
Maintenance Technician - 36-41/hr - Direct Placement Responsibilities Overhaul, repair, and test high-speed production equipment, including ovens, packaging machines, mixers, cartoners, baggers, stuffers, and related machinery throughout the facility. Read, interpret, use, and update shop prints, technical drawings, and equipment specifications to support maintenance and repair activities. Refer to and apply information from manufacturers' manuals for servicing, troubleshooting, and installing equipment and distribution systems. Determine manpower, materials, tools, and methods required to complete assigned maintenance and repair work efficiently and safely. Recommend changes to equipment, processes, or methods to improve reliability, performance, and maintainability. Prepare, paint, and refinish surfaces as needed, and maintain cleanliness and organization in all work areas. Use hand tools, power tools, and test equipment to diagnose issues, perform repairs, and verify proper equipment operation. Maintain spare parts inventory, monitor stock levels, and order replacement parts and materials as required to minimize equipment downtime. Coordinate with maintenance supervision when locking and tagging systems to ensure proper lockout/tagout procedures are followed. Consistently observe and adhere to all safety standards, policies, and best practices while performing maintenance activities. Observe and assist outside contractors working on-site to ensure their work complies with facility standards and safety requirements. Train new hires and internal transfers on proper maintenance procedures, equipment operation, and safety standards. Apply mechanical maintenance and mechanical troubleshooting skills to identify root causes of equipment issues and implement effective solutions. Perform fabrication tasks, including welding, grinding, and assembly, to repair or modify equipment and components as needed. Work with drive trains, including belts, pulleys, sprockets, and chains, to install, align, adjust, and maintain these systems. Support basic electrical work on 110V single-phase and 230V and 480V three-phase systems within the scope of the role. Work with hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including troubleshooting and repairing related components. Support the use and maintenance of sensors, PLC-controlled equipment, motors, and drive systems as part of overall equipment reliability. Essential Skills 2-5 years of hands-on mechanical maintenance experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment. 2-5 years of mechanical troubleshooting experience on high-speed or complex production equipment. 2-5 years of experience working with drive trains, including belts, pulleys, sprockets, and chains. 2-5 years of basic electrical experience with 110V single-phase and 230V/480V three-phase systems. 2-5 years of fabrication experience, including welding, grinding, and mechanical assembly. Experience working with hydraulic systems, including troubleshooting and repair. Experience working with pneumatic systems and components. Ability to read, interpret, and update shop prints, technical drawings, and equipment specifications. Ability to understand and apply information from manufacturers' manuals for servicing and installing equipment. Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and test equipment used in mechanical maintenance. Strong knowledge of safety standards, including lockout/tagout procedures. Ability to train others in maintenance procedures and safety practices. Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on root cause analysis and long-term solutions. Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and prioritize multiple tasks in a production environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience maintaining high-speed food or consumer goods production equipment. Familiarity with sensors and PLC-based control systems in a manufacturing setting. Experience working with motors and drive systems in industrial equipment. Experience coordinating work with external contractors in an industrial facility. Ability to document work performed and update maintenance records and prints accurately. Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with maintenance supervision, production teams, and contractors. Work Environment This role is based in a very large food manufacturing facility that produces snack products at scale. The site consists of two main buildings: one housing equipment updated from the 1980s and another featuring equipment updated from the 2000s. You will work around high-speed production lines, including ovens, mixers, packaging equipment, cartoners, baggers, and stuffers, as well as associated mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. The environment is fast-paced and production-focused, requiring consistent attention to safety practices, including lockout/tagout procedures and adherence to facility standards. Work involves regular use of hand tools, power tools, welding and fabrication equipment, and test instruments, and requires moving throughout the facility to support multiple lines and areas.
