Job Description

Skills:
The Maintenance Technician should have a high school diploma or equivalency. Trade school training or at least two years of equivalent work experience preferred. The incumbent must possess a minimum of three years of hands-on experience in mechanical and structural maintenance and repairs. Working knowledge is required in the areas of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, groundskeeping, and cleaning techniques. The incumbent must possess positive human relation skills. The ability to work as a member of a staff team is essential. The ability to work without direct supervision is critical to this position. The incumbent must be able to identify problems and realistic solutions within YMCA budget constraints. Child Abuse Prevention Training, CPR/AED & First Aid certification required within 90 days of employment. Must be able to obtain Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification within 6 months of employment.
Principal Activities:
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required or assigned. Perform minor maintenance and repairs as needed, such as painting, electrical, plumbing, routine cleaning, and others. Perform daily cleaning responsibilities per Operations Director. Notify repair services, in consultation with the Executive Director, of needed repairs and maintenance. Inspect and maintain building systems and structures such as HVAC, plumbing, roof, etc. Keep accurate records of inspections. Set up and perform preventative maintenance on all equipment and structures per specifications. Oversee the maintenance of all pool facilities. Maintain safe, efficient pool operations through overseeing chemical quality, pool maintenance, cleaning and safety equipment, backwash procedures, and temperature readings. Coordinate with the Aquatic Director to maintain safe operational standards. See that the appropriate people are aware of needed maintenance and/or repair of equipment, and that repairs are accomplished in a timely fashion. Carry out property and equipment inspections and document findings. Maintain proper inventory of repair tools. Report any unsafe conditions immediately to Executive Director and make suggestions for correction/improvement. Keep Executive Director informed of equipment outages, repair delays, problem progress, and departmental needs. Set up and tear down equipment used in programs as needed. Work with Aquatic Director, Family Services/Camp Director, and Youth Program/Assistant Camp Director to get Camp High-Tor in operating order for summer camp programs. When working during adverse weather, shovel sidewalks and spread de-ice. Continuously monitor 3rd party vendor(s) to ensure all YMCA grounds are in a neat, trimmed and well-kept manner by mowing and trimming grass on YMCA property. Clean and remove grass from sidewalks, concrete pads, walkways, bridges, parking lots after mowing and trimming as necessary. Trim and remove clippings from shrubs and brushes of landscaping. Demonstrate safe and responsible operation and maintenance of all lawncare equipment, including but not limited to riding lawn mower, push mower, weed eater, blower and hand tools required to complete the job to the level deemed by the Executive Director. Ability to work early morning, evening, weekends, or holidays as necessary. Ability to be on call as necessary for emergency repairs and any building maintenance issues. Perform additional responsibilities and duties at the request of the Executive Director.
