Job Title:
Industrial Mechanic Job Description The Industrial Mechanic performs hands-on mechanical maintenance, welding, fabrication, and routine mechanical inspection activities across the plant to support safe, reliable, and efficient operations. This role combines traditional mechanical skills with condition-based monitoring, including systematic inspections of belts, rollers, gearboxes, motors, bearings, and other rotating equipment. The position focuses on ensuring equipment reliability, minimizing downtime, and maintaining accurate inspection records and maintenance notifications. Responsibilities Follow all plant safety policies and strictly adhere to lockout/tagout procedures for all maintenance and inspection activities. Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of hazards to support a safe and efficient work environment. Immediately report unsafe conditions, near misses, and potential hazards to the appropriate personnel. Participate actively in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and other safety-related programs. Perform preventive and corrective mechanical maintenance on plant equipment, including conveyors, gearboxes, motors, pumps, and other rotating equipment. Identify abnormal noise, vibration, leaks, and other signs of mechanical issues and act promptly to address them. Conduct belt repairs, roller replacement, and adjustments including drift switch conditions, alignment, and tensioning. Perform gearbox inspections, monitor oil levels, and assess lubrication conditions to ensure proper operation. Support equipment rebuilds, planned shutdowns, and outage activities by executing assigned mechanical tasks. Diagnose mechanical failures, determine root causes, and recommend effective corrective actions. Perform stick, MIG, and TIG welding to repair and fabricate components as required by plant operations. Fabricate and repair structural components such as chutes, brackets, guards, and supports to maintain equipment integrity and safety. Execute field modifications to improve equipment reliability, maintainability, and safety in accordance with plant standards. Follow plant welding procedures and safety standards, ensuring high-quality welds and compliance with inspection requirements. Conduct routine walk-by inspections of plant equipment to detect early signs of wear, damage, or malfunction. Perform first-level and specific-level mechanical inspections to evaluate the condition of plant equipment and document findings. Maintain the mechanical inspection program and coordinate inspection activities with maintenance leadership. Take and record bearing and gearbox temperature readings using appropriate tools. Collect vibration readings using handheld vibration tools and report anomalies for further analysis. Manage the plant equipment lubrication program, including identifying all lubrication points and monitoring quantities and frequency of lubrication. Support oil analysis activities and use results to help plan maintenance and prevent failures. Generate maintenance request notifications in SAP based on inspection findings and observed equipment conditions. Coordinate with the execution group and maintenance planner to estimate manpower, parts, tools, and procedures required for repairs. Perform visual inspections of couplings, bolting, and structural integrity of equipment and supporting structures. Maintain accurate inspection logs, reports, and documentation, and communicate findings to maintenance leadership in a timely manner. Supervise condition monitoring activities executed by specialized third-party services and verify that measurements and conclusions are accurate and complete. Support predictive maintenance initiatives by providing field data, observations, and feedback on equipment condition. Operate machinery and equipment safely and efficiently as required to perform maintenance and inspection tasks. Use computer systems and basic applications to enter data, complete reports, and manage maintenance notifications. Communicate effectively with maintenance, operations, and planning teams to coordinate work, minimize downtime, and prioritize critical tasks. Essential Skills Strong hands-on mechanical skills in maintaining and repairing plant equipment, including conveyors, gearboxes, motors, pumps, and rotating equipment. Proven welding and fabrication experience, including stick, MIG, and TIG welding. Demonstrated experience working with conveyors and bulk material handling systems. Familiarity with rotating equipment such as gearboxes, motors, and bearings, including inspection and troubleshooting. Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and schematics to perform maintenance and fabrication work accurately. Comfort using infrared thermometers and handheld vibration tools to collect condition monitoring data. Mechanical troubleshooting skills, including the ability to identify abnormal noise, vibration, and leaks and determine appropriate corrective actions. Experience with preventive maintenance practices and scheduled maintenance activities in an industrial setting. Ability to perform machine operating tasks safely and efficiently as part of maintenance and inspection work. Basic computer operation skills to enter data, manage inspection logs, and generate maintenance notifications. Effective communication skills to coordinate with maintenance, operations, and planning teams. Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work at heights, and work in confined spaces as required by the role. Ability and willingness to work in dusty, industrial environments and adapt to changing conditions. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in cement, slag, mining, or heavy material handling operations is preferred. Basic understanding of vibration analysis principles to support condition-based maintenance. Knowledge of lubrication best practices, including lubrication point identification, proper quantities, and correct frequency. Forklift or manlift certification is preferred for safe operation of material handling and access equipment. OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 safety certification is preferred. Demonstrated ability to lead by example in safety and communicate clearly during toolbox talks and maintenance discussions. Experience supervising or coordinating with third-party service providers for condition monitoring or specialized maintenance. Strong organizational skills to maintain inspection logs, plan work, and coordinate with maintenance planners and execution teams. Why Work Here?
