Job Title:
Maintenance Technician (Mechanical/Welding Equipment) Job Description The Mechanical Maintenance Technician maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs welding equipment used in stainless steel manufacturing, with a strong focus on orbital welding systems. This role ensures optimal equipment performance, minimizes downtime, and supports high production quality and efficiency in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and repair of welding equipment, including orbital welders, TIG/MIG welders, and related systems. Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and control issues in automated and semi-automated welding machinery. Maintain and service orbital welding systems, including weld heads, power supplies, and gas delivery systems. Conduct preventive maintenance programs to ensure equipment reliability, safety, and longevity. Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical components associated with welding systems. Collaborate closely with engineering and production teams to optimize welding processes and overall equipment performance. Maintain accurate maintenance records, logs, and technical documentation for all serviced equipment. Assist with the installation, setup, and commissioning of new welding equipment and related systems. Ensure strict compliance with safety standards and procedures, including proper lockout/tagout (LOTO) practices. Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing downtime, improving efficiency, and enhancing product quality. Essential Skills High school diploma or GED required. Minimum of 3 years of experience in industrial maintenance, preferably in stainless steel or metal fabrication environments. Hands-on experience maintaining welding equipment, including orbital welding systems. Strong mechanical aptitude with knowledge of bearings, drives, motors, and alignment practices. Basic electrical troubleshooting skills, including motors, sensors, wiring, and control systems. Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals. Proficiency in troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and control issues. Experience performing preventive maintenance and repairs on industrial equipment. Ability to troubleshoot PLC-controlled systems at a basic level. Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills with a focus on root cause analysis. High attention to detail and a strong commitment to quality. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively within a team. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment. Mechanical inclination with demonstrated experience in repair and maintenance of industrial machinery. Ability to work safely and consistently follow established safety procedures, including LOTO. Additional Skills & Qualifications Technical or trade school certification in a maintenance, mechanical, or related discipline preferred. Experience with orbital welding brands such as AMI (Arc Machines Inc.), Orbitalum, or Swagelok. Familiarity with stainless steel processing and high-purity welding applications. PLC troubleshooting experience with platforms such as Allen-Bradley or Siemens. Certification in welding or maintenance-related disciplines. Ability to interpret and work from detailed blueprints and schematics. Comfort working with both automated and semi-automated welding machinery. Work Environment This role is based in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with first-shift schedules, typically Monday through Thursday from either 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with voluntary overtime available on Fridays. The position involves regular interaction with welding equipment such as orbital welders, TIG/MIG welders, and associated mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, as well as exposure to PLC-controlled machinery. The work requires standing, walking, and lifting for extended periods and may involve occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds. You may experience exposure to industrial noise and varying temperatures typical of a manufacturing facility. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Caledonia, MN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $36.00/hr.
