Job Description

SUMMARY:
The Maintenance Technician I is responsible for assisting and carrying out production tasks and assignments, including responsibilities in the following functional areas: Repairing and maintaining mechanical equipment, controlling machines and processes, inspecting equipment, structures, or material, handling and moving objects, and performing general physical activities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following reflects management's definition of essential functions for this job but does not restrict the tasks that may be assigned. Management may assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time due to reasonable accommodation or other reasons: Preventive & Corrective Maintenance Performs preventive maintenance on machinery, engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, buildings, and production equipment per manual, diagrams, and specifications. Schedules and completes timely maintenance to ensure full utilization of equipment. Inspect belts, check fluid levels, replace filters, greases bearings and seals. Monitors and controls equipment downtime and communicates preventive maintenance practices to production staff and supervisors. Responds to emergency maintenance requests as required. 2. Troubleshooting, Diagnostics & Repairs Diagnoses mechanical issues by observing equipment operation, listening for irregularities, and using precision measuring and testing instruments. Dismantles machinery to remove and replace defective or worn parts using hand, power tools, and hoists. Adjusts, aligns, and calibrates mechanical and control components to proper specifications. Maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs heavy equipment, hydraulic systems, gearboxes, pumps, and pneumatic systems. 3. Fabrication, Welding & Technical Skills Fabricates repair parts using machine shop tools and instrumentation. Performs metal fabrication and welding operations using arc, MIG, TIG, oxygen/acetylene, and plasma processes. Measures and determines dimensional requirements using calipers, micrometers, rulers, and related instruments. Assure all work meets technical specifications, instructions, and quality standards. 4. Safety, Compliance & Professional Standards Maintains a safe and clean work environment by following established safety procedures and regulations. Wears required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times. Maintains compliance with California and Federal employment laws, regulations, and company standards. Comply with the Code of Conduct and policies contained in the Employee Handbook. Conserves maintenance resources and materials appropriately. 5. Documentation, Communication & Teamwork Prepares and maintains maintenance records and reports using maintenance management software. Documents work performed, irregularities, and ongoing maintenance needs to ensure continuity between shifts and teams. Provides technical support and mechanical maintenance information to supervisors and coworkers. Demonstrates strong work ethics, ability to work independently, and effective collaboration with team members. Meets production standards within expected timeframes while maintaining high product quality. Other duties as assigned by manager.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training in industrial maintenance or mechanics preferred. 1-3 years of experience performing mechanical maintenance in an industrial, manufacturing, or facilities environment. Working knowledge of preventive and corrective maintenance for production machinery, conveyor systems, motors, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment. Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical issues using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments. Experience reading and interpreting work orders, schematics, diagrams, manuals, and engineering specifications. Basic fabrication and repair skills, including metalworking and welding (MIG, TIG, arc, or oxygen/acetylene preferred). Ability to perform routine inspections and service tasks such as belt inspections, lubrication, filter replacement, and fluid checks. Strong understanding of workplace safety practices, including lockout/tagout procedures and proper use of PPE. Ability to document maintenance activities accurately using maintenance software or CMMS systems.
