What You Will Do Promotes a culture of patient safety. Establishes a plan to measure and report opportunities for improvement along with recommendations to designated council or committee. Using patient safety principles develops patient education and nursing/patient support systems for the functional application. Provides leadership for nursing (and others as appropriate) develop and enhance their professional practice. Translates JC standards and NPSG into practice. Coordinates the Magnet Recognition assessment. Develops the strategic goals for seeking and maintaining Magnet status designation. Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Nursing 5 Years in a hospital clinical setting. 2 Years Leadership experience. Experience in an organization that has attained Magnet designations. Experience in data analysis and interpretation. California Registered Nurse (RN)

Other Qualification Requirements Master degree, Doctorate in Nursing or equivalent preferred, current enrollment is required if not completed. Professional nursing certification a plus. Essential Functions Magnet Coordination Responsible for the organization, coordination and administration of the Magnet Recognition Program Facilitates all aspects of the Magnet process from application to designation. Collaborates with nursing leadership to assure that the Magnet Standards of care are met and related programs are developed, maintained and evaluated. Responsible for the annual report to ANCC required for maintaining Magnet Status. Structural Empowerment Provides leadership and guidance to nurses regarding practical application of patient safety and Magnet Program principles and goals. Provides education and leadership for the Shared Governance Structure. Resource to chairpersons and facilitates practice council meetings and educational sessions for the shared governance councils. Professional Practice Development and Safety Works with nurses to identify, develop, and implement a professional practice framework . Design, develops, and enculturates innovative ways to transform nursing care delivery and patient care systems Serves as the professional practice resource for the Patient Care leadership and Shared Governance councils, supporting the integration of professional practice standards into performance improvement and patient safety initiatives by these teams. Develops and/or participates in performance improvement projects that demonstrate the impact of patient safety strategies on clinical outcomes. Regularly collects, assesses, and trends data to identify risks using formal and informal methods, including unit rounding, reviewing databases and quality variances, and analyzing other quality reports. Collaborates with Nursing Leadership, in the analysis of patient safety and nursing sensitive indicator data against professional practice standards for strengths and weaknesses. Uses analysis to set strategic priorities to both build on professional practice strengths and reduce variation in nursing practice to reduce patient safety errors and raise the standard of care. Develops reporting and communication mechanisms to disseminate the current picture of the measurement and variation of professional practice across the organization including relevant committees, shared governance councils, and front line staff. Collaborates in the development of nursing standards/policies related to organizational safety by identifying relevant professional practice standards and related evidence based practices. Recommends and assists with measuring changes in practice when performance improvement strategies are implemented on the nursing units. Standards Measurements Coordinates the measurement of the Joint Commission standards for the Provision of Care and National Patient Safety Goals Implements selected projects related to JC standards, National Patient Safety Goals and Nursing sensitive indicators. Monitors the effectiveness of selected projects. Leadership Develops working relationships with staff, managers, CNS, nursing specialist, ALs, directors and physicians. Engages in teamwork as a team member and team leader. Provides mentoring, guidance and support for staff and leadership in the magnet journey and professional practice implementation. Seeks our opportunities to influence care. Role Models professional nursing. Supervises data collection and provides feedback. Human Resources Management Assures that staff performance appraisals are conducted in a timely manner. Manages hiring, coaching, counseling of staff and institutes developmental and corrective action plans as necessary. Assures appropriate staff and skill mix for optimal unit functioning. Assures that all pertinent information is provided to staff through staff meetings and other forms of formal and informal communication. Assists staff to access services provided by Human Resources, EAP and EQD. Maintains up-to-date employee records. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Must have excellent communication and coaching skills; knowledge and use of Crucial Conversation techniques and skills. Evidence of knowledge and skill in leadership/management, human behavior, and project management. Evidence of excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Evidence of creative and analytical skills and innovative initiatives. Evidence of leadership in conducting successful systemic needs analysis.
