Job Description:
The Manager of Surgical Services is a Registered Nurse that understands and supports the philosophy and policies and procedures of Aspirus Wausau Hospital. The Manager works collaboratively to produce, nurture, and sustain a professional practice and healthy work environment that affords and enhances patient care effectiveness and efficiency through leadership to multidisciplinary teams, effective physician relationships, and a shared vision and dedication to the future of Aspirus Wausau Hospital. Nurse Managers have 24 hour/7 day a week accountability for the overall supervision of all the Registered Nurses and other healthcare providers in the area under their direction. Leads the planning, developing, implementing, evaluating, and monitoring of process improvement, budgets and allocation of resources, continuous quality improvement initiatives, and shared governance to achieve departmental and organizational goals and objectives. Works closely with the Chief Nursing Officer for direction of overall nursing practice. Is also responsible for the recruitment and retention, performance review, professional development, and delivery of nursing care for designated area(s).
Experience/Qualifications:
Knowledge of patient care standards and practices acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree in nursing, or BSN. Bachelor's Degree is required within 2 years of hire date. A master's degree in administration or nursing administration is beneficial. Five years' experience as a staff nurse in an acute care facility, knowledge and expertise in area of application, and competency in critical thinking and prioritizing skills in previous employment situations necessary for patient care and management functions. Previous experience in the supervision of personnel, evaluation of the quality and appropriateness of nursing care, budget preparation and resource utilization beneficial. Possesses an active Wisconsin RN nursing license. Membership in appropriate professional organizations is beneficial.
