Job Description
A Manufacturing Safety Program Manager takes a proactive and enthusiastic approach to risk management and fostering a culture of safety throughout the organization. This role develops and enforces health & safety policies, conducts risk assessments, manages compliance (OSHA, EPA), leads incident investigations, and implements training to foster a strong safety culture, ensuring adherence to all regulations while minimizing workplace risks through proactive audits and corrective actions for a safe, efficient production environment. Manufacturing:
This role is crucial for protecting personnel, preventing downtime, reducing costs (worker's comp), and ensuring operational continuity by keeping the plant compliant and workers safe from hazards inherent in production settings.Key Responsibilities:
Promoting aSafety Culture :
Championing a "safety-first" culture across all levels of the organization and collaborating with management and employees to ensure engagement and accountability in safety initiatives.Policy and Program Development :
Creating, implementing, and updating comprehensive health and safety policies, procedures, and manuals in compliance with regulatory requirements.Risk Assessment and Mitigation :
Conducting regular site inspections, audits, and job hazard analyses (JHAs) to proactively identify potential hazards and implementing corrective measures to eliminate or minimize risks.Regulatory Compliance and Reporting :
Acting as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies and ensuring all operations meet or exceed standards set by bodies like OSHA and the DOT. This includes managing all required recordkeeping, such as OSHA Forms 300, 300A, and 301.Training and Education :
Developing and delivering safety training programs for employees, managers, and subcontractors on safe work practices, hazard recognition, emergency response, and proper handling of materials or equipment.Incident Investigation and Analysis :
Leading investigations into accidents, injuries, near-misses, and incidents to determine root causes and implement preventive actions to avoid recurrence.Emergency Preparedness :
Developing, maintaining, and testing emergency response and business continuity plans through drills and exercises.Data Analysis and Metrics :
Tracking, analyzing, and reporting on safety Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), trends, and incident rates to leadership to drive continuous improvement. Education :
A Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Engineering, or a related field is often preferred.Certifications :
CSP, CIH, CHST
(preferred).Experience :
7 to 10 years proven leadership experience evaluating and improving safety programs in manufacturing safety, knowledge of industrial safety practices. 5 to 7+ years of managing a safety and health team in a manufacturing environment, Knowledge in advanced manufacturing technology, chemicals, and pneumatics a plus. Previous work with safety and environmental programs in an industrial, construction environment a plus.Technical Skills :
Deep knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations. Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities. Strong attention to detail and analytical skills for risk assessment and data analysis. Proficiency with safety management software and Microsoft Office Suite.Soft Skills :
Leadership, communication, motivational skills, natural ability to influence improvement changes.Language:
Bi-lingual English and Spanish a plus Core Competencies for this position include: Technical Knowledge- Easily interprets and ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations, and implements policies and procedures accordingly. Presentation Skills
