Job Description
Position Summary We are seeking a skilled and motivated Cold Heading Department Supervisor to support and lead production of cold headed titanium fasteners. This role combines hands-on machine setup and operation with leadership responsibilities, ensuring efficient production and high-quality output. Ideal candidates take pride in precision work, problem-solving, and driving continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities (not limited to) Machine Operation & Setup Set up, operate, and monitor cold heading machines to produce precision fasteners Perform complete machine setups, tooling changes, and efficient changeovers on multi-die headers and 1 die 2 blow headers Approve first-piece inspections and perform in-process quality checks Use precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, gauges, optical comparator) to verify product conformance to industry standards or customer drawings Troubleshoot machine, tooling, and process issues to minimize downtime and maintain quality standards Perform routine preventive maintenance and support equipment reliability initiatives Production & Process Control Monitor multiple machines to ensure consistent output, quality, and minimal scrap Optimize machine performance, cycle times, and production efficiency Maintain accurate production records, tooling usage, and inspection documentation Ensure adherence to work instructions, quality standards, and safety procedures Leadership & Supervision Lead and support machine operators Train, mentor, and develop less experienced operators on setups, troubleshooting, and best practices Coordinate workflow and communicate effectively with engineering, production and quality control Promote a culture of accountability, safety, and quality on the shop floor Qualifications Required Proven experience setting up and operating cold heading machines (multi-die preferred) Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot and adjust equipment independently Proficiency in reading blueprints and technical drawings Experience using precision measurement and inspection tools Solid understanding of tooling, dies, and cold forming processes Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented environment High school diploma or GED Preferred Experience with multi-die headers (e.g., National, Waterbury) Background in fastener or high-volume component manufacturing Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) Experience in training or supervising operators Experience 15+ years of cold heading setup and operation experience required Prior leadership, lead, or supervisory experience strongly preferred Problem-solver who takes ownership of machine performance and team success
