Job Description

OVERVIEW
Leverwood Knife Works, located in Red Lion, PA, is one of the world's leading manufacturers of custom, precision-ground industrial blades. Leverwood's custom industrial cutting blades are utilized by a variety of industries, including packaging, paper converting, food processing, printing, bag manufacturing, recycling, and many more.
POSITION SUMMARY
The primary responsibility of the Hammer Smith will be to assist the production team as needed, straighten blades, to become and stay current with all projects, especially special projects as required from time to time.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Knowledge and skill to flatten/ straighten the jobs after heat-treatment as well as grinding.
  • Knowledge of flatness inspection through dial and surface table setup, feeler gauge, straight edge etc.
  • Knowledge and understanding of types of hammers and their selection criteria in flattening/ straightening the jobs made up of material grades like SS-440 and 420 series, tool steels like D2, M2, L3, Carbon Steels etc.
  • Knowledge of flattening the various types of distortion/ curvature found in the job after H/T and grinding like, center lift, edge twist, surface twist, edge bow, surface bow etc.
  • Knowledge of safe blade handling practices (due to sharp edges and high hardness).
  • Laser etch as needed: blanks, fixtures, etc.
  • Assist with safety projects as directed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Ensure that all company Safety, Heath, and Environmental (SHE) policies are being followed on all work performed.
  • Utilize proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times and is current with all required company trainings conducted by employer.
  • Offer recommendations for enhanced safety measures and equipment to the Safety Committee. Minimum Qualifications
  • 2 years smithing experience minimum.
  • Completed or working towards a high school diploma/GED.
  • Able to follow detailed verbal and written instructions, processes, and procedures.
  • Must be able to read, write, understand, and speak fluent English.
  • Self motivated individual with a positive attitude who possesses organizational skills.
  • Ability to work well as a team player.
  • Able to work safely in a manufacturing, production environment.
  • Able to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Responsible and able to complete tasks in a timely fashion.
