Job Description

About the Work Scobis Millwork + Design builds custom wood doors and architectural millwork for residential and commercial clients. 90% of our work is doors. Every project is different. You'll work with Sapele, White Oak, Accoya, Mahogany, Walnut, and occasional exotics. Most projects take several weeks. You'll typically run one to two jobs at a time. We work to AWI standards with written quality specs and shop drawings. Our rework rate is low because we build it right the first time. What You'll Do Fabrication (60% machine work, 40% hand finishing): Mill and machine components from architectural drawings and shop tickets Operate table saws, jointers, planers, shapers, routers, and
HOMAG CNC
router Hand-fit mortise-and-tenon, dowel, and specialty joinery Surface prep and edge profiling (finishing department handles stain and topcoat) Work with both solid wood and veneer applications Collaborate with shop foreman on build sequencing and material optimization Move materials and finished components using forklift and materials handling equipment Inspect work throughout fabrication process to catch issues before assembly Maintain organized workspace and follow shop safety protocols Project flow: Read and interpret architectural drawings Plan cut lists and material usage Machine components to tolerance Assemble and fit doors and millwork packages Prep for finishing department handoff You'll work on one or two active projects simultaneously. Projects range from single custom doors to complete millwork packages.
What You Need Experience:
5+ years in custom millwork, cabinetry, or door fabrication (production experience required) Proficiency with jointers, planers, shapers, table saws, routers, and sanders Experience reading architectural and shop drawings Knowledge of traditional joinery methods Comfort working to AWI quality standards
Skills:
Ability to problem-solve custom builds (no two projects are identical) Comfortable learning new equipment and techniques (we're upgrading machinery and adding capabilities) Work independently after initial project briefing Attention to fit, tolerance, and surface prep Forklift certification preferred (or willingness to certify) Physical requirements: Lift up to 50 lbs (team lift for heavier stock) Stand and work at machines or benches for extended periods Clear vision for precision work Bonus experience: CNC programming or operation Work with Accoya or exotic hardwoods Experience with veneer and solid wood applications
What We Offer Compensation:
$28 to $35/hour based on experience Typical work week is 40 to 45 hours. Overtime paid at 1.5x. Performance bonus structure in development for 2027
