Job Description

Structural & Misc. Steel Detailer (SDS2) . Company Overview Rockstar Welding is a growing miscellaneous and structural steel fabrication and installation company serving commercial and industrial clients throughout North Texas. Our projects include stairs, rails, canopies, structural supports, and custom metalwork. Position Overview We are seeking a precise and motivated Steel Detailer with expertise in SDS2 software to join our growing team. In this role, you will be responsible for creating highly accurate 3D models and detailed shop drawings that serve as the blueprint for our fabrication and erection processes. This position focuses on a diverse range of projects, including miscellaneous metals (stairs, railings, ladders) and smaller structural steel frames. The position is based in our Pilot Point, TX office, working 5 days a week in a collaborative environment. Key Responsibilities 3
D Modeling:
Utilize SDS2 software to create accurate 3D models of structural and miscellaneous steel projects.
Drawing Production:
Generate comprehensive shop drawings, erection drawings, and bill of materials (BOM) based on the 3D model.
Plan Interpretation:
Review and interpret structural and architectural blueprints, specifications, and design drawings.
RFI Management:
Identify discrepancies or missing information in design documents and draft Requests for Information (RFIs) to engineers and architects.
Quality Control:
Perform self-checks on drawings to ensure compliance with project requirements, AISC standards, and safety codes (OSHA).
Collaboration:
Work closely with Project Managers and Fabricators to ensure designs are optimized for production and field installation.
Project Maintenance:
Update models and drawings based on revisions, change orders, and field-verified dimensions.
Qualifications Software Expertise:
Minimum of 2+ years of hands-on experience using SDS2 for steel detailing (Required).
Industry Knowledge:
Deep understanding of steel fabrication processes, connection design, and AISC standards.
Technical Literacy:
Ability to read and master complex structural blueprints and architectural schematics.
Communication:
Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective coordination with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Problem Solving:
A proactive approach to identifying potential design clashes or fabrication issues before they reach the shop floor.
Detail-Oriented:
focus on precision to ensure all shop drawings are field-ready and error-free.
License:
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Key Qualities Precision-Driven:
The ability to maintain exactness throughout the modeling process to prevent downstream fabrication and installation issues.
Team Player:
You work effectively with project managers and shop foreman to keep the pipeline moving smoothly.
Adaptability:
You can pivot quickly when project scopes change or deadlines tighten.
