Job Description

Bioprocess Technician Job Description The Bioprocess Technician supports biological production processes by performing aseptic operations, in-process quality checks, and equipment-related activities in compliance with current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) standards, safety requirements, and site procedures. This role works with fermentation and downstream equipment, follows batch production records, and contributes to continuous improvement of processes and documentation. Responsibilities Perform aseptic processes, including weighing, measuring, counting, calculations, sampling, and verifications in accordance with batch production records (BPR) and cGMP standards. Execute biological production processes while ensuring compliance with all current safety standards, quality requirements, and site procedures. Operate fermentation systems, vessels, centrifuges, concentration units, and other large-scale production systems at a basic to intermediate level. Ensure all production equipment, instruments, and materials are properly released, available for use, and used according to written procedures. Look up and perform transactions within the electronic inventory management system to support production activities and material traceability. Oversee production processes on the manufacturing floor, including cleaning activities, environmental monitoring, and personnel practices as defined in procedures. Perform in-process batch quality checks in alignment with written procedures and document results accurately and promptly. Follow all safety rules, wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintain proper safety practices at all times. Read and interpret batch records, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and quality and safety documentation to execute tasks correctly. Create and update standard operating procedures and related documentation using basic computer skills. Write deviation reports and other required documentation to support quality investigations and continuous improvement. Complete all required training, including general company procedures, area-specific procedures, equipment operation, computer operation, safety, GMP, and other assigned training. Generate and share new ideas to improve workplace efficiency, safety, and production processes. Support sterile processing and aseptic technique practices to maintain product quality and prevent contamination. Contribute to bioprocessing and manufacturing activities involving biological organisms in a large-scale production environment. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in a scientific field. Basic knowledge of fermentation processes and systems. Basic understanding of centrifuges, concentration units, and large-scale production equipment. Familiarity with biological organisms and bioprocessing principles. Ability to follow and interpret batch production records (BPR) and standard operating procedures (SOPs). Understanding of aseptic technique and sterile processing practices. Working knowledge of cGMP standards and manufacturing documentation requirements. Basic computer skills, including the ability to create and update documents and complete electronic training. Ability to perform transactions within an electronic inventory management system. Strong attention to detail for in-process quality checks and documentation. Ability to think on one's feet, multitask, and maintain a big-picture mindset in a production environment. Work Environment The role is primarily based on the production floor, overseeing batches and their quality rather than working in a traditional laboratory environment, with only minimal time spent in lab areas. The Bioprocess Technician works with large-scale fermentation systems, vessels, centrifuges, concentration units, and other production equipment, performing significant instrumentation and mechanical tasks. The environment follows strict cGMP, safety, and cleanliness standards, with required use of appropriate personal protective equipment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fort Dodge, IA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $36.30 - $36.30/hr.
