Job Title:
Process Technician - Plastics Extrusion and Molding Job Description Join a medical device manufacturing facility in Noblesville, Indiana as a Process Technician in the plastics extrusion and molding division. In this hands-on role, you set up and adjust production equipment, perform changeovers, troubleshoot process issues, and support operators to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production of single-use medical devices. You work closely with other technicians and engineers on the manufacturing floor, maintaining equipment performance, documenting processes, and contributing to continuous improvement efforts. Responsibilities Set up and configure plastics extrusion and molding machines by adjusting parameters, performing changeovers, and documenting all setups accurately. Provide day-to-day operator support on the manufacturing floor, assisting with machine operation and resolving production issues in real time. Analyze and troubleshoot process problems on extrusion and molding equipment to minimize downtime and defects. Perform minor mechanical maintenance and adjustments on machinery using appropriate hand tools. Operate overhead cranes safely for mold replacements, mold changes, and other required lifting tasks. Maintain machine quality, cleanliness, and efficiency, ensuring equipment and work areas remain organized and compliant with standards. Follow production schedules and prioritize tasks to meet output, quality, and delivery goals. Conduct basic research and testing on process parameters to reduce defects and improve yield. Document process conditions, changes, and results clearly and consistently for traceability and continuous improvement. Work collaboratively with technicians and engineers to support process engineering and continuous improvement initiatives. Adhere to all safety procedures and FDA guidelines, including proper gowning and clean manufacturing practices. Lift materials and tooling (over 50 pounds as needed) and safely climb onto machines when required for setup, maintenance, or troubleshooting. Support one assigned extrusion or molding machine during the shift within a larger group of machines in the division. Essential Skills Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working with machinery, including the ability to use common hand tools (e.g., wrenches) confidently. Hands-on experience operating overhead cranes in a production or industrial environment. Proficiency in process documentation, including recording machine settings, changes, and outcomes clearly and accurately. Working knowledge of pneumatic systems and their application in manufacturing equipment. Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and process issues methodically and implement effective solutions. Capability to lift over 50 pounds and safely climb onto machines as part of daily tasks. Ability to work effectively as part of a team on a busy manufacturing floor. Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail and a focus on quality. Clear and professional communication skills to collaborate with operators, technicians, and engineers. Willingness and ability to work night shifts as scheduled. Additional Skills & Qualifications Prior experience as a process technician, mold setter, or in a similar plastics molding or extrusion role. Experience with mold setting, mold changes, and crane-assisted mold handling. Experience in medical device manufacturing or other regulated industries with specific field requirements. Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in a production environment. Exposure to process engineering, process improvement, or continuous improvement initiatives. Experience working with plastics molding, extrusion, or injection molding processes. Understanding of chemical or mechanical principles related to plastics processing is a plus. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based 100% on the manufacturing floor in the plastics mold and extrusion division of a clean, FDA-regulated facility in Noblesville, Indiana. You work alongside a team of technicians and engineers, supporting one of several extrusion and molding machines during your shift within a department that operates a total of 16 injection molding and extrusion machines. The environment requires strict adherence to FDA guidelines, including gowning procedures before entering the plant and following cleanroom-style practices while working. The facility includes additional divisions and products, with access to a café and office space, though your primary work area remains on the production floor with the machines. Available shifts include night schedules, such as an 8-hour night shift from approximately 10:45 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. (Sunday through Thursday), as well as a 12-hour rotating night shift from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. on a 2-on/2-off, 3-on/3-off pattern. You should be prepared for physically active work, including lifting, climbing on machines, and operating overhead cranes, while wearing appropriate gowning and following all safety and cleanliness requirements. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Noblesville, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
