Compensation Range:
$55,955.00 - $78,336.00 The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
Responsibilities:
Technician supporting cryogenic & tritium-based target fabrication and shot operation support of targets on the OMEGA laser system. Serves as a qualified operator who maintains unique and complex mechanical systems, following established procedures and protocols, in support of OMEGA shot operations. Diagnoses and remediates emergent technical problems related to high vacuum vessels, cryogenic cooling equipment and radioactive sources. Performs research lab functions including cleaning, supply stock, documentation, and procedure writing.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Serves as a qualified operator, maintaining unique and complex mechanical systems, following established procedures and protocols, in support of one or more teams of the Laser Lab for Energetics. Completes qualification and stands watch in the operation of highly specialized equipment for filling targets and delivery of the targets for scientific campaigns. Diagnoses and remediates emergent technical problems related to high vacuum vessels, cryogenic cooling equipment and radioactive sources. Maintains radiological containment areas. Performs advanced calibration procedures Performs research lab functions, including cleaning, supply stock, documentation, and procedure writing. Interacts with vendors regarding specifications for new purchases, as well as technical guidance required for maintenance issues. Participates in system upgrade projects and works under the direction of a project manager to meet deliverables Performs duties on 2nd or 3rd shift when required. Typically, off shift duties are two to three non-sequential shifts (days) a month. Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree and 2 years of relevant experience required Or equivalent combination of education and experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Strong mechanical and chemical process aptitude required Excellent verbal and written communication required Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical schematics required Strong interpersonal skills suitable for working in a team-based environment required Proficient in Microsoft Office with the ability to learn additional software required Qualified as a Radiation Worker at time of hire; otherwise must qualify within 12 months of hire under LLE's direction. We are looking for someone who is excited to learn, exceptionally reliable, and attentive to detail. Experience with vacuum systems and or cryogenic systems preferred Experience with chemistry operations (chemical separation) preferred Experience with mechanical systems (including pressurized systems) preferred Experience performing radiological management activities preferred. Experience using control software or working with PLC control systems preferred.
