Job Description

LECOM Medical Center and Behavioral Health Pavillion, an Equal Opportunity Employer is looking to add a Full Time Central Processing Technician to our team!
SUMMARY:
Performs and participates in collecting, decontamination, cleaning, assembling, packaging, disinfecting/sterilization, storage and distribution of surgical instruments, trays and packs, reusable medical devices and patient care equipment according to established standard and procedures to ensure sterile and functioning supply of materials and equipment. The Sterile Processing Technician understands microbiology and infection control standards.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Central Sterile Processing Technician minimum job requirements include: sitting/standing for prolonged periods, frequent walking and reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive). Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills are needed. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Must have the ability to lift/push/pull greater than 50lbs. May be exposed to fumes, chemicals, cold, heat, noise, radiation, blood/body fluids and infectious disease. 1. Maintains a sufficient amount of supplies on patient units. 2. Distributes supplies to units (including STAT requests). 3. Prepares monthly and bi-weekly staff schedules. 4. Processes supplies by cleaning, packaging, sterilizing and storing in accordance with established policies and procedures. 5. Prepares stores and vendor requisitions. 6. Documents loss of equipment and/or supplies. 7. Checks for outdated supplies. 8. Checks supplies upon receiving from vendor or stores. 9. Checks Disaster Cart and rotates supplies. 10. Assists in attaching traction equipment as needed. 11. Maintains equipment for patient care. 12. Prepares electrical equipment for the six-month electrical check. 13. Other duties as assigned.
MANDATORY/STATUTORY QUALIFICATIONS
Pass a nationally accredited central service exam for CST AND maintain one of the following: Certified registered central service technician credential, or Certified sterile processing and distribution technician credential.
Employment and continuing education:
New employees - Employee has 18 months from date of hire to pass a nationally accredited central service exam for CST and obtain one of the two credentials noted above. Continuing education - Annually complete 10 hours of continuing education.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Graduation of an accredited surgical technologist / sterile processing school. Required National certification as a Central/Sterile Processing Technician.
Training and experience:
Central Service experience and/or completion of Central Service/Sterile Processing Technician course, three years' experience in a comparable job classification required. Knowledge of surgical instrumentation, supplies and equipment.
