Overview Sterile Processing Technician Join the Team at Hampton Roads Ambulatory Surgery Center At Hampton Roads Ambulatory Surgery Center, we understand that safe, successful surgical outcomes begin with excellence behind the scenes. Our Sterile Processing team plays a critical role in maintaining the highest standards of patient safety by ensuring all instruments and equipment are properly cleaned, sterilized, and ready for use. We are an AAAHC-accredited, physician-owned ambulatory surgery center committed to quality, efficiency, and teamwork. With three operating rooms and one procedure room supporting specialties including Orthopedics (sports medicine and total joints), ENT, Podiatry, General Surgery, and more, our Sterile Processing professionals are essential to maintaining efficient surgical workflows and supporting a high-performing clinical team. Position Summary The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, storage, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment. This role ensures that all instruments, supplies, and equipment are processed according to established infection prevention standards and are available for scheduled procedures. Responsibilities Decontaminate, clean, inspect, assemble, package, sterilize, and distribute surgical instruments and equipment according to established policies and procedures. Operate and monitor sterilization equipment, including steam sterilizers and low-temperature sterilization systems such as Sterrad. Perform routine biological, chemical, and mechanical monitoring of sterilization processes and maintain accurate documentation. Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and proper assembly before sterilization and use. Assemble procedure and instrument trays according to physician preference cards and specialty requirements. Maintain adequate inventory levels of sterile supplies and assist with stock rotation and supply management. Ensure proper storage and handling of sterile instruments and supplies to maintain sterility. Collaborate with operating room staff to prioritize instrument needs and support efficient case turnover. Identify and report damaged, missing, or malfunctioning instruments and equipment. Adhere to all infection prevention, safety, regulatory, and accreditation standards. Assist with maintaining a clean, organized, and compliant sterile processing department. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education opportunities as required. Qualifications & Skills Required High School Diploma or equivalent. Minimum of 1-2 years of Sterile Processing experience. Knowledge of surgical instrumentation, sterile processing practices, and operating room procedures. Experience operating various types of sterilization equipment. Familiarity with medical terminology and surgical supplies. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and commitment to patient safety. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities. Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Preferred Completion of a Sterile Processing Certification program (CRCST, CSPDT, or equivalent). Previous experience in an ambulatory surgery center or hospital surgical services environment. $41,000.00 - $66,500.00 per year
