Job Title:
Process Operator Job Description The Process Operator supports a large, climate-controlled ethanol production facility by safely operating and monitoring equipment throughout the full production process. This role combines hands-on mechanical work with computer-based process control, including troubleshooting conveyors, pumps, valves, and forklifts, performing lockout/tagout procedures, and using a DCS system and basic Microsoft Office tools to track and document operations. The ideal candidate is eager to learn, highly motivated, and able to methodically walk through and troubleshoot an entire process from start to finish in a fast-paced production environment. Responsibilities Operate and monitor ethanol production equipment across the full process, ensuring safe, efficient, and consistent operations. Troubleshoot mechanical issues on conveyors, forklifts, pumps, valves, and related production machinery to minimize downtime. Perform lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures to safely isolate equipment before maintenance, troubleshooting, or repair work. Unload materials using a sit-down, gas-powered forklift in a safe and controlled manner. Check and record temperatures of bearings and other critical components to identify potential maintenance needs or equipment issues. Use a DCS (Distributed Control System) to monitor process conditions, identify required actions, and adjust parameters as needed. Enter operational data and production information into Microsoft Word and Excel, accurately documenting activities and process changes. Apply chemical handling best practices to support safe mixing, production, and processing activities. Operate boilers with attention to safety, efficiency, and compliance with operating procedures. Follow established safety procedures and OSHA standards throughout all daily activities. Collaborate with team members during each shift to coordinate tasks, share information, and maintain smooth plant operations. Continuously learn plant processes, equipment, and systems, quickly grasping new information and applying it on the job. Communicate clearly about troubleshooting steps and walk through processes from start to finish when discussing issues or improvements. Support production goals by maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and operational reliability on every shift. Essential Skills 2+ years of experience as a Chemical Operator or in a process operations role. 3-5 years of experience performing lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures in an industrial or production environment. 3+ years of mechanical troubleshooting experience in areas such as conveyors, pumps, valves, chemical processes, mixing, or production equipment. 5+ years of experience working with OSHA safety practices and standards. At least 1 year of forklift experience, with the ability to operate a sit-down gas-powered forklift. 1-2 years of experience operating boilers in an industrial or production setting. Ability to use a DCS (Distributed Control System) to monitor and manage production processes, or strong willingness and aptitude to learn. Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and basic Microsoft Word and Excel, including the ability to navigate spreadsheets and enter data accurately. Strong troubleshooting mindset with the ability to methodically walk through a full process from start to finish. High level of motivation, eagerness to learn, and ability to quickly grasp new concepts and procedures. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in chemical handling, mixing, or production operations. Expereince in machine operation within a manufacturing or industrial facility. Familiarity with process control systems and computer-based monitoring tools. Strong attention to detail when recording data and monitoring equipment conditions. Ability to clearly describe past troubleshooting experiences and explain step-by-step problem-solving approaches. Comfort working in a rotating shift environment, including both day and night shifts. Willingness to complete certifications related to the role and continuously build technical skills. Why Work Here?
