Job Description

Machinist/Machine Operator Machinist Position Overview:
Steelhead Metal Corp is looking for an experienced CNC Machinist to join our team. This role is primarily focused on 3-axis machining , with 5-axis experience considered a strong plus. We are seeking someone who takes pride in producing high-quality precision parts, works well in a team environment, and is comfortable in a fast-paced manufacturing setting. Large format mill experience also a plus.

Schedule This will typically be a Monday through Friday role, working 40-50 hours a week on a day shift. The hours vary as needed to meet project deadlines. There is opportunity for overtime.
Responsibilities:
Set up and operate CNC mills to produce precision machined parts Perform machine setups including tooling, fixtures, offsets, and workholding Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications Inspect parts using measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and indicators Make offset adjustments and monitor part quality during production Troubleshoot basic machining and dimensional issues Maintain a clean and organized work area Follow safety and quality standards Work with supervisors, programmers, and quality personnel to keep jobs moving efficiently
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum 2 years of CNC machining experience Experience with 3-axis CNC machining Ability to read blueprints and understand part dimensions/tolerances Experience using common inspection tools Understanding of machine offsets, tooling, and setups Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality Reliable attendance and strong work ethic Preferred Qualifications 5-axis machining experience Experience in a job shop environment Ability to make minor program edits at the machine Familiarity with machining aluminum, stainless steel, and mild steel Knowledge of GD&T Experience with first article and in-process inspections Skills We're Looking For CNC setup and operation Blueprint reading Precision measurement Troubleshooting Time management Teamwork Quality-focused mindset
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand for extended periods and lift/move heavy objects as required - 50 lbs. Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to operate machinery and use tools effectively. Willingness to work in a machine shop environment with exposure to noise, dust, and machining lubricants.
