Full Job Description Position Overview:
The CNC Machine Set-up Operator sets up and operates computer numerical control machines to fabricate parts. The CNC Machine Set-up Operator measures dimensions of completed products, installs mechanical components and/or mounts attachments, tools, materials, or workpieces onto production equipment. This position enters specifications into machines and detects malfunctions in machine operations. The position runs production lots, communicates with co-workers regarding productions runs, and maintains a safe, organized and clean work environment.

Position Responsibilities Regularly performs boring, milling, turning, drilling, tapping, deburring, countersinking, sawing and sanding tasks to drawing specifications on a variety of parts. Use program and tools furnished, position preset tools in magazine according to code numbers, set machine and fixtures according to layout and tooling list. Perform everyday machine maintenance (coolant, cleaning, etc.) Maintain related records, perform associated handling duties, make suggestions for improvements in machining techniques and perform related duties as required by Plant Management. Operate/attend additional machines during the automatic cycle of the machine center as needed. Meet productivity and quality goals provided by the Group Leader, Quality Manager, and/or Shop Supervisor. Measure dimensions of finished workpieces to ensure conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments, templates, and fixtures. Mount, install, align, and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and workpieces on machines using hand tools and precision measuring instruments. Insert control instructions into machine control units to start operation. Review program specifications or blueprints to determine and set machine operations and sequencing, finished workpiece dimensions, or numerical control sequences. Calculate machine speed and feed ratios and the size and position of cuts. Implement changes to machine programs and enter new specifications. Position Requirements Possess and utilize own precision measuring instruments Communicate effectively Ability to read blueprints Ability to read a caliper, micrometer Practical knowledge of general shop mathematics Strong attention to detail Teamwork mentality Preferred Education and Experience High school diploma and 1-2 years Operator experience Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
