Job Title:
CNC Operator - 1st Shift Job Description This role is a hands-on CNC Operator position on the day shift, responsible for running CNC mills or lathes, loading and unloading heavy parts, monitoring production, and performing basic quality checks. You will set up and operate equipment with minimal supervision, make minor machine adjustments, and help ensure that all parts meet quality and production standards in a high-volume manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Load and unload parts on CNC machines and run existing programs according to work instructions. Use micrometers, gauges, calipers, and other inspection tools to check your own parts and verify conformance to specifications. Perform basic grinding and surface finishing on machined parts as required. Change your own tools and make minor offsets and pickups at the machine controls to maintain part quality. Operate machinery and equipment with minimal supervision while following safety and quality procedures. Utilize micrometers and gauges to measure parts and assure product quality throughout the production run. Complete and maintain all required production records, inspection logs, and documentation accurately and on time. Interrupt the machine cycle when needed to address issues, and safely restart the machine once resolved. Calibrate gauges to master gauges provided to ensure accurate measurements. Reset or replace dull or damaged cutters to maintain machining performance. Communicate equipment, quality, or process problems promptly to the shift supervisor. Maintain a clean and organized work area, following housekeeping standards. Meet established quality and production requirements, including cycle times and output targets. Provide feedback on processes, work instructions, and quality performance or concerns to support continuous improvement. Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned to support production and team goals. Essential Skills At least 2 years of recent CNC operator experience on mills or lathes. Proficiency operating CNC machines and running existing programs in a production environment. Hands-on experience using quality tools such as gauges, micrometers, and calipers. Ability to perform basic tool changes and make minor offsets at the machine controls. Experience working in a manufacturing environment producing heavy parts. Ability to regularly lift up to 50 pounds safely. Capability to perform quality inspections and accurately measure parts using hand tools and inspection equipment. Ability to complete production and quality documentation with attention to detail. Strong communication skills to report issues and collaborate with supervisors and team members. Ability to work mandatory overtime, including some Saturdays and Sundays, as required by production needs. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with both CNC mills and lathes is a plus. Comfort working with large, heavy components and newer CNC machinery. Familiarity with grinding and surface finishing processes. Ability to calibrate gauges to master gauges. Strong focus on quality, safety, and housekeeping. Reliability and consistent attendance, with interest in attendance-based incentives. Work Environment This is a full-time 1st shift role, working approximately 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., currently averaging about 50 hours per week with mandatory overtime that may include Saturdays and Sundays. The facility features newer CNC machines and handles large, heavy parts, so you will work in a production environment that is industrial but described as not excessively loud, with somewhat dim lighting. The building was thoroughly cleaned recently, contributing to a more orderly and comfortable workspace. You will use CNC mills or lathes, hand tools, micrometers, gauges, calipers, and other inspection equipment on a daily basis. The dress code requires oil-resistant shoes or steel-toe footwear, no cutoffs, no loose clothing or hoods, and hats must be worn forward for safety. The schedule includes a 30-minute unpaid lunch and a paid 20-minute break during the shift. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fraser, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $20.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
