Machine Operator (Aerospace Manufacturing / CNC & Conventional Machining)
Job Description:
Mission
We are seeking an experienced Machine Operator in Kinston, NC to support high-precision aerospace manufacturing within a production environment. This role involves setting up and operating a variety of machine tools to produce parts, mechanisms, tools, and machine components to exacting aerospace tolerances.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in CNC and/or conventional machining, strong blueprint reading skills, and a solid background in aerospace or precision manufacturing environments. This position plays a critical role in producing high-quality aircraft components that meet strict engineering and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
Set up and operate a variety of machine tools to manufacture parts, mechanisms, tools, or machine components to precise tolerances and dimensions
Interpret blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications to determine sequence of operations, number of cuts required, and setup methods
Utilize machinist hand tools and precision measuring instruments to ensure dimensional accuracy
Perform shop math calculations related to dimensions, tooling, feeds, and speeds
Measure, span, and scribe reference points to lay out stock for machining operations
Fit and assemble precision parts into mechanical systems and determine required materials, parts, and equipment
Monitor and verify quality using statistical process control (SPC) or other quality control procedures
Produce parts and assemblies using both conventional and Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machining methods
Ensure product and process quality throughout all stages of manufacturing through inspection and verification practices
Perform machining operations such as milling, drilling, boring, honing, grinding, and fastening
Perform routine machine maintenance including:
Replacing filters
Changing lightbulbs on equipment
Maintaining lubrication and coolant levels as part of basic preventative maintenance
Move materials and components within the manufacturing area using shop-assigned equipment
Complete required documentation and transactions to support product movement to next operation
Support continuous production flow by assisting and training employees of equal or lower classification
Train toward MVP qualification as required
Perform additional duties as assigned with provided training and certification
Profile
Qualifications
Basic machine operator skills required
Strong understanding of shop safety procedures, OSHA regulations, and quality standards (including FOD prevention and "clean as you go" practices)
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications
Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
Ability to clearly communicate complex technical issues
High level of attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
Must be willing and able to work any shift, including overtime as needed
Must be a U.S. Person as defined under U.S. export control regulations.
Experience Requirements
Minimum 3 years of machine operator experience required
5+ years of aerospace or aviation production experience preferred
Education & Training RequirementsRequired:
High School Diploma or GED, OR successful completion of WorkKeys assessment
Must successfully complete company-provided training, including:
Health & Safety Training
General Aircraft Familiarization
Quality Training
Preferred:
Vocational training or apprenticeship in machine operation or related manufacturing field
