Full-time Position Overview:
The Machine Shop Technician II is responsible for the setup, operation, and maintenance of CNC and manual machining equipment to produce high-quality composite and metallic parts per engineering specifications. This role requires a strong understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), blueprint reading, and precision measurement. The technician will perform intermediate to advanced machine setups, troubleshoot machining processes, and ensure adherence to Fibreworks Composites (FWC) Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols. Additionally, the role involves equipment maintenance, inventory management, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform advanced bonding and gluing operations in accordance with multiple Fibreworks Composites (FWC) Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Operate forklifts to safely transport raw materials, tooling, and finished components throughout the facility. Independently set up and operate CNC machines, including the loading and unloading of tooling and materials. Program, adjust, and troubleshoot CNC machine parameters to ensure production meets exact specifications. Read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints, applying geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) principles. Use precision measuring instruments (e.g., calipers, micrometers, height gauges) to inspect and validate part accuracy and quality. Perform intermediate to advanced machine setups with minimal supervision, including tool touch-offs and offset adjustments. Conduct routine and preventative maintenance on machines and equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation. Monitor and maintain inventory levels of stock materials, tooling, and consumables; communicate supply needs to the Administrator. Maintain coolant levels and machine cleanliness; utilize a refractometer to test and control coolant concentration for quality assurance. Ensure a clean, organized, and safe work environment by performing routine housekeeping tasks (e.g., sweeping, mopping, dusting) and complying with all health and safety procedures. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and remain current on industry best practices through ongoing training and development. Assist in the onboarding, training, and mentoring of junior technicians and new team members. Collaborate with leadership to identify process enhancements and support production goals. Team:
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent from a vocational or technical school (required). Trade certification preferred but not required. Strong math skills and mechanical aptitude with a demonstrated interest in precision work. Working knowledge of CNC machining and basic machining processes. Familiarity with hand tools and mechanical devices. Ability to use or quickly learn precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers, height stands). Basic understanding of cutting tools and the ability to identify when replacements are needed. Capable of adjusting tool offsets to correct dimensional discrepancies. Ability to read and follow written instructions; willingness to learn blueprint reading. Excellent communication, organizational, and teamwork skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and basic computer applications. Certified forklift operator with hands-on experience. Strong attention to detail with a results-driven, deadline-focused mindset. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks in a manufacturing environment. Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle record. Normal business hours: 1st
Shift:
7:00AM - 4:00PM; 2nd
Shift:
4:00PM - 1:00AM, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekends and holidays as scheduled by leadership.
