Job Description

CNC Mill Operator - 1st shift (6a-4:30p) Job Description The CNC Mill Operator sets up and operates vertical CNC milling machines to produce precision shafts and related components for large industrial equipment. This role focuses on running Haas vertical milling machines, interpreting blueprints and existing programs, making minor G and M code adjustments, and performing routine tool and insert changes to ensure high-quality, consistent production. Responsibilities Operate Haas vertical CNC milling machines to produce precision shafts and components according to specifications. Review and interpret blueprints, part drawings, and CNC programs to determine machining requirements and setup needs. Set up CNC milling machines, including selecting, installing, and aligning tools, fixtures, and workholding devices. Perform changeovers between jobs efficiently while maintaining quality and minimizing downtime. Make minor modifications and edits to existing G and M code programs to adjust feeds, speeds, and tool paths as needed for proper machine operation. Understand and apply G and M code to execute machine operations safely and accurately. Perform insert and tool changes, including identifying the correct tools required for each job and ensuring they are properly installed and maintained. Verify part dimensions using appropriate measuring tools and adjust machine settings to maintain tolerances. Monitor machine operation, detect issues such as tool wear or abnormal sounds, and take corrective action to prevent defects or downtime. Maintain a clean and organized work area, following standard work practices and safety procedures. Collaborate with team members and leadership to resolve machining issues and improve processes. Use basic hand tools and shop equipment to support machine setup, operation, and minor maintenance tasks. Essential Skills At least 2 years of CNC milling machining experience. Hands-on experience operating CNC milling machines, preferably Haas vertical mills. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings. Ability to understand and work with G and M code to perform machine operations and make minor program edits. Experience with machine setup, including tooling selection and part setup, is strongly preferred. Proficiency with changeovers and machine operating in a production environment. Ability to perform tool and insert changes safely and efficiently. Capability to use basic hand tools required for machining and setup tasks. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality parts. Ability to work a consistent Monday-Friday schedule and be available for 50-55 hours per week. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience setting up CNC machines beyond basic operation is a plus. Familiarity with Haas controls and vertical milling centers is beneficial. Experience working with shafts or similar rotational components is an advantage. Exposure to DMG Mori CNC machines or similar equipment is helpful. Comfort working from detailed blueprints and process documentation in a production environment. Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills in a machining setting. Must be able to worked scheduled hours 50-55 hours per week Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Willoughby, OH.
