We build custom plastic laminate casework, countertops, lockers, specialty millwork, and related architectural woodwork for healthcare, commercial, and institutional projects throughout the Portland area. This role is central to shop throughput. The CNC Operator will be responsible for preparing, running, and maintaining our CNC cutting workflow so cabinet parts move accurately and efficiently from digital cut files into production. Primary Responsibilities Operate CNC router to cut cabinet parts, panels, components, and other casework materials Load sheet goods, confirm material type/thickness, and manage spoilboard and vacuum setup Run pre-generated cut files and verify parts are being produced accurately Read cut lists, labels, shop drawings, and production documentation Check finished parts for size, machining quality, missing operations, and material defects Organize and label cut parts for downstream edgebanding, assembly, and shop flow Change tooling and bits as needed; monitor tool wear and cut quality Perform routine machine cleaning and basic preventive maintenance Communicate production issues, file concerns, material problems, or machine inconsistencies promptly Coordinate with drafting/engineering, shop leads, and fabrication staff to keep work moving Assist with adjacent shop tasks when CNC workload allows Preferred Qualifications Prior experience operating a CNC router in a cabinet, millwork, furniture, or woodworking shop Familiarity with sheet goods such as plywood, melamine, MDF, particleboard, and laminate-faced panels Ability to read shop drawings, cut lists, and production labels Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate parts Comfortable using basic computer interfaces and managing digital job files Experience with nested-based manufacturing, cabinet part production, or Microvellum-driven workflows is a plus Basic understanding of tooling, feeds/speeds, vacuum hold-down, and CNC troubleshooting is a plus Forklift or material-handling experience is helpful but not required What We're Looking For The right person is: Dependable and steady in a production environment Organized with parts, labels, and job flow Mechanically attentive and able to catch issues before they create rework Comfortable working independently while staying coordinated with the broader shop Interested in becoming a key contributor to a growing commercial cabinet operation Physical Requirements Ability to lift and maneuver sheet goods and cabinet parts with assistance as needed Ability to stand, bend, reach, and work on a shop floor throughout the day Ability to safely work around woodworking machinery, dust collection, and material-handling equipment Compensation Competitive hourly pay, based on experience.
