Wire EDM operator

Job Title:

Wire EDM Operator Job Summary:

The Wire EDM Operator is responsible for setting up, programming, and operating Wire (EDM) equipment to manufacture precision components. This role requires a strong understanding of machining processes, blueprint reading, and quality control to ensure parts meet exact specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

• Set up and operate Wire EDM machines to produce precision parts according to engineering drawings and specifications
• Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and CAD files
• Program and edit CNC programs for Wire EDM operations (using CAM software where applicable)
• Select appropriate materials, wire types, and machine settings for each job
• Monitor machining processes and make adjustments to maintain accuracy and efficiency
• Inspect finished parts using measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges
• Perform routine maintenance on EDM equipment and troubleshoot issues as they arise
• Maintain a clean and organized work area in compliance with safety standards
• Document production data, including job progress and quality checks
• Collaborate with engineers, machinists, and quality teams to improve processes

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent (technical certification preferred)
• 5+ years of experience operating Wire EDM machines (or equivalent machining experience)
• Proficiency in reading blueprints
• Experience with CNC programming and/or CAM software is preferred
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to operate other equipment as necessary a plus

Skills & Competencies:

• Knowledge of EDM machining principles and tooling
• Familiarity with precision measurement instruments
• Basic computer skills for programming and documentation
• Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
• Time management and organizational skills

Working Conditions:

• Manufacturing or machine shop environment
• Prolonged periods of standing and operating machinery
• May be required to lift up to 50 lbs
• Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certification in CNC machining or EDM operation
• Experience with specific EDM brands (e.g., Fanuc, Mitsubishi, Sodick)
